President Trump said he couldn’t attend his eldest son Don Jr.’s wedding in the Bahamas on Saturday (May 23), citing that he was tied up with “issues pertaining to government” — before later sharing a run of memes and AI-created images of himself online.
Trump said he was disappointed to miss the private ceremony, which took place on a small Bahamian island and was reportedly limited to around 50 guests.
Don Jr., 48, married Bettina Anderson, 39, a model and socialite whose parents are Florida entrepreneur Harry Loy Anderson Jr. and philanthropist Inger Anderson.
In comments about the decision, Trump said that because of his “love for the United States of America” and “a thing called Iran,” he would not be traveling for the celebrations.
“I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington D.C. at the White House during this important period of time, congratulations to Don and Bettina!” he wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Over the Memorial Day weekend, the president’s public calendar appeared relatively sparse, including a significant amount of “executive time.”
As the wedding unfolded, however, Trump was active online, uploading multiple memes and AI-generated visuals of himself. One image showed him clutching the top of a mountain range with the caption “hello Greenland!”.

He also posted tributes to late WWE star Hulk Hogan and NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, who reportedly died unexpectedly from sepsis at age 41 on Thursday (May 21).
After that, he shared an AI-made video that depicted him tossing former Late Show host Stephen Colbert into a dumpster.
Later that evening, at around 18:00 EDT, gunfire was reported on the White House lawn. Authorities said 21-year-old Nasire Best was shot and killed by the Secret Service after firing in the direction of agents.

In a statement issued afterward, the president thanked the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies for what he called their “swift and professional” response.
Trump, who was at the White House at the time of the incident, wrote: “He [Best] had a violent history and possible obsession with our Country’s most cherished structure.
“This event is one month removed from the White House Correspondent’s Dinner shooting, and goes to show how important it is, for all future Presidents, to get, what will be, the most safe and secure space of its kind ever built in Washington, D.C. The National Security of our Country demands it!”
