MLB star Bryce Harper reveals ‘insane’ way he applies toothpaste and fans are stunned

Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper is famous for his elite play in the outfield and at first base, but a recent clip has fans talking for a very different reason: his surprisingly unconventional approach to a simple hygiene routine.

Considered one of the standout talents of his era, Harper is a two-time National League MVP (2015, 2021) and an eight-time All-Star.

In a video he recently shared on X, viewers were left equal parts baffled and uneasy after spotting what he does in the bathroom—specifically, the way he brushes his teeth.

The clip starts with the MLB slugger leaning over a sink, dressed in a black tank top, with his signature bouffant hairstyle on full display.

He grabs his toothpaste—nothing unusual so far—but what happens next is what prompted many to say they felt both “confused and scared”.

Instead of squeezing paste onto the brush, Harper sprays toothpaste straight into his mouth, then spits it back out onto his toothbrush, carrying on as if it’s perfectly normal.

Dental advice typically suggests putting a pea-sized amount of toothpaste directly onto the brush before you start. It helps avoid swallowing too much and makes it easier to spread the paste evenly across your teeth.

Harper, however, clearly has his own method.

The replies quickly filled up with jokes and disbelief, including one fan who wrote: “I’m scared but I also respect his transparency”.

Others argued it wasn’t that different in practice, with one comment reading: “I guess that’s not really different from applying directly to a brush. It still touches your mouth. Toothbrush might even be dirtier.” Another viewer came around after thinking it over, adding: “Y’know, after contemplation…. Not the worst… I can see the vision…”

Some responses were less forgiving, including: “Some people use toothpaste like they’re carefully icing a cake and Bryce Harper apparently applies it with a caulking gun.”

Judging by the reaction, fans are a lot more confident in Harper’s on-field routine than his tooth-brushing technique.

Away from bathroom debates, Harper’s résumé remains stacked: two NL MVP awards, four Silver Slugger Awards, an NL Rookie of the Year trophy, and an NLCS MVP honor.

He captured National League MVP in 2015 (with the Washington Nationals) and again in 2021 with the Phillies.

He has also won the Silver Slugger Award four times—2015, 2021, 2023, and 2024—and has been named an MLB All-Star eight times: 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022, and 2024.

Harper’s 2025 campaign was solid, though quieter than many have come to expect from him.

After a right wrist injury sidelined him for about a month, he finished the season hitting .261 with 27 home runs, 75 RBIs, and an .844 OPS across 132 games—numbers his front office reportedly described as “good, not elite”.
