Netflix users only have hours left to watch true crime series about one of America’s infamous ‘rom-conmen’

Netflix viewers are rushing to binge a fan-favorite crime thriller on the service — but it won’t be there for much longer.

Although the platform is packed with Netflix Originals — with The Crash among the newer documentaries drawing attention — it also relies heavily on licensed series and films from other networks.

And even titles that feel like mainstays can disappear from the catalog. Netflix explains the reason on its site:

“Netflix licenses TV shows and movies from studios around the world.

“Though we strive to keep the titles you want to watch, some titles do leave Netflix because of licensing agreements.”

The streaming service adds that when a license is nearing its end, factors like whether rights can be renewed, regional popularity, and overall licensing cost can all influence what stays and what goes.

Now, it appears one major title is on the way out despite its strong following: Dirty John.

The series holds a 78 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and first aired on Bravo in 2018. It dramatizes the real-life relationship between Debra Newell and John Meehan.

Meehan — known as ‘Dirty John’ — was an American con man, convicted felon, and manipulative figure who deceived those around him.

After only a short time dating, Meehan and Newell married. But once she discovered the extent of his criminal history, she left him — and he allegedly went on to torment her and her family.

Meehan died in 2016 after being stabbed by Newell’s daughter, Terra, who acted in self-defense.

In the dramatized adaptation, Connie Britton portrays Debra Newell, while Eric Bana plays John Meehan. Ozark actor Julia Garner takes on the role of Terra Newell.

Season two — which is also currently on Netflix — shifts focus to the Betty Broderick case. Broderick killed her ex-husband and his new wife in 1989.

She died in prison on May 8, 2026, aged 78.

Amanda Peet stars as Broderick, with Christian Slater playing Dan Broderick. Rachel Keller appears as Dan’s second wife, Linda Kolkena.

For anyone planning to watch, time is running out: both seasons are scheduled to leave Netflix on Sunday (May 31).

Get it in while you can.
