Knicks Reporter Responds to Backlash After Hot Mic Captures Brutal Taylor Swift Remark

Taylor Swift has received an apology after a courtside comment questioning her Knicks loyalty caused a stir, with the analyst later admitting she “didn’t know”.

Swift’s love of sport is well established. She has often been spotted at major games, happily leans into team merchandise, and her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has only added to that public image.

What not everyone realizes, however, is that her support stretches beyond the NFL. The singer has long been linked with the New York Knicks, and that connection drew fresh attention during the team’s recent NBA Finals run.

Swift attended Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, June 10, where the Knicks hosted the San Antonio Spurs. She sat courtside in a blue “Stevie Knicks” shirt, a playful nod blending Fleetwood Mac icon Stevie Nicks with the NBA team she was there to watch.

As the team played, Swift was seen applauding in a playful Stevie Knicks shirt, a reference that blended Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks with the NBA side she was there to watch.

Things took an awkward turn when analyst Monica McNutt appeared to spot Swift on a hot mic and made a quick judgment about why she was there.

“That’s her down there! With the long ponytail in the blue.”

“She’s not even a Knicks fan, get out of here girl!”

The comment quickly sparked backlash, with plenty of people online pointing to past examples of Swift supporting the Knicks. McNutt later addressed the reaction and issued an apology after fans resurfaced earlier photos and reports tied to Swift’s Knicks fandom.

In video shared by TMZ, McNutt acknowledged that fans had flagged evidence of Swift’s Knicks history, including an older photo of her with Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony.

“Swifties, I appreciate your passion. I said what I said and here’s the deal, if I’m wrong — and I am wrong apparently because we’ve got an OG Amar’e Stoudemire jersey.”

The image in question showed Swift wearing Stoudemire’s jersey while posing with the former Knicks players, something that was also referenced during her 2014 TIME profile era and widely circulated when she visited Knicks practice that year.

McNutt went on to explain that she had simply been unaware of Swift’s Knicks connection and had based her assumption on more recent appearances.

“I misspoke,”

“I did not know, but here’s the deal. I literally just did a piece on celebrity row, I know these folks.

“I had not seen her here, this year or last year, and we just saw her with her fiancé [at the Cleveland Cavaliers game].”

That Cavaliers appearance came during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals in Cleveland on May 23, 2026, when Swift sat courtside with Kelce as the Cavs hosted the Knicks. Because Kelce is closely associated with Cleveland sports, some viewers took that outing as a sign that Swift was there more in support of him than New York.

“Obviously, Travis supports the Cavs, but she didn’t have on any Knicks paraphernalia, so I did not know her Knicks loyalty, but shout out to T-Swift. We can be united in orange and blue.”

“I apologize.”

Before that apology, the reaction online had largely been disbelief, with users resurfacing years of examples to argue that Swift’s support for the Knicks was already well documented. Her response, though, appears to have cleared the air.

The renewed attention also came as celebrity interest around the Knicks surged during the Finals, with Madison Square Garden packed with high-profile fans. Swift’s appearance, along with her “Stevie Knicks” shirt, quickly became one of the most talked-about moments from the crowd as New York continued its deep postseason run.
