Marius Borg Høiby, 29, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been convicted on two rape charges after a verdict in Oslo District Court.
The court sentenced him to four years in prison and acquitted him of the other two rape counts he faced.
Høiby, who is the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship and the stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, had been charged with 40 offences in total, including rape, violence, threats and other abuse-related allegations.
Prosecutors had previously sought a sentence of seven years and seven months, while his lawyers argued he should be acquitted of the rape allegations and receive a much shorter sentence for the offences he admitted.
The case has drawn intense attention in Norway because of Høiby’s royal connections and the serious nature of the allegations.
