Olympic skier Bode Miller has addressed his recent Idaho drug arrest after court records showed he was charged with two misdemeanor offenses.
According to reports from court documents, Miller was arrested on June 6 in eastern Idaho and later charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He has since entered not guilty pleas to both counts and was released after posting a $5,000 cash bond.
While the court filings do not spell out every detail publicly, a probable cause statement reported by news outlets says an officer found Miller with a white dispensary bag containing 4.1 grams of psilocybin mushrooms. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for July 29.
Following the incident, the former Olympian shared a statement on Instagram about what happened.
“I was pulled over for accelerating while passing another vehicle on a highway in Idaho. My friend, who was traveling with me, had a small amount of cannabis and a cannabis pipe in his possession which I was unaware of. We fully cooperated with the officer. I am hopeful the misdemeanor charges will be dropped once the facts are reviewed.”
Miller, one of the most decorated American alpine skiers in history, won six Olympic medals during his career before retiring from professional skiing in 2017.
