New Wolf of Wall Street Documentary Exposes Shocking Details the Movie Left Out

A new documentary series centered on the real-life figure behind The Wolf of Wall Street is coming to Paramount+ this July, promising to reveal the “insane” details that never made it into the movie.

The project, now titled The Real Wolf of Wall Street, is a three-part docuseries set to premiere on Paramount+ on July 14. The series revisits Jordan Belfort’s rise at Stratton Oakmont, the excess that made his name notorious, and the fallout that followed.

Since its release, The Wolf of Wall Street has remained hugely popular, with plenty of viewers still placing it among their all-time favorite films.

What many fans may not realize, though, is that the true story of Jordan Belfort reportedly involved even more chaos than the 2013 film showed.

That is set to be explored in the new documentary, with the trailer suggesting Belfort’s real-life conduct may have been even more extreme than audiences were led to believe.

For years, people have argued over whether Martin Scorsese’s film condemned Belfort’s actions or ended up glamorizing them.

Either way, the upcoming series appears ready to dig into material that was left out of the Hollywood version.

“A lot of the movie was bulls***.”

Another participant in the documentary says:

The Wolf of Wall Street doesn’t even accurately portray the level of insanity that occurred.”

The official synopsis states:

“While the iconic film The Wolf of Wall Street saw Hollywood turn Jordan Belfort (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) and his band of boiler room brokers at Stratton Oakmont into the face of 90s excess, the story behind their rise is even darker and more debauched than previously known.”

According to the description, the project includes never-before-seen footage, thousands of internal FBI documents, and archival interviews. The series also appears to broaden the story beyond Belfort himself, focusing on the victims, investigators, and former insiders who say the film only captured part of what happened.

The producers add:

“The documentary uncovers the explosive true story of Belfort’s meteoric rise, his stunning fall and those he left stranded in his wake,”

Although many people might welcome a Scorsese-directed film about their own life, Belfort later made clear he was unhappy with aspects of the production behind The Wolf of Wall Street.

In 2020, he filed a lawsuit claiming he was “completely blindsided to learn, after the fact, of the source of funding” for the film’.

The former stockbroker alleged that Red Granite, the production company that acquired his movie rights, financed The Wolf of Wall Street using money tied to the 1MDB corruption scandal and failed to disclose that to him.

He said that, had he known the source of the funds, he might have negotiated different terms or chosen not to work with the company at all.

In a significant development, Malaysia’s 1MDB later dropped a separate $248 million lawsuit against Riza Aziz and Red Granite Pictures in 2025, though the broader scandal continues to cast a long shadow over the film’s legacy.

Jordan Belfort has been approached for comment.
