Two sisters in Texas have been charged with murder after a mother of five was fatally stabbed in broad daylight in Del Rio.
Amaya Cookie Diaz, 19, and Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, were taken into custody in Del Rio, a town in southwest Texas near the Mexican border, after police say they identified them from surveillance video and witness interviews. A third woman, 21-year-old Kyandra Renee Faz, was also charged in the case.
Police allege the trio were involved in the killing of Caroline ‘Caro’ Peña, 32, and were arrested within hours of the incident.
In a statement shared on social media, the City of Del Rio Police Department said:
“On June 25, 2026, at approximately 2:10 p.m., officers with the Del Rio Police Department responded to Val Verde Regional Medical Center after receiving a report of a female suffering from multiple stab wounds.
“Upon arrival, officers determined the assault had occurred in the 800 block of East 10th Street.
“Due to the severity of her injuries, the victim was transported to a medical facility in San Antonio for emergency treatment.”

Authorities said Peña later died from her injuries after being stabbed twice in the back and once in the stomach.
Police said detectives reviewed surveillance footage, processed evidence and interviewed witnesses before locating and arresting Kitty Mia Diaz and Amaya Cookie Diaz around 4:00 p.m. A short time later, Kyandra Renee Faz was also arrested in connection with the investigation.

The police statement added:
“Investigators gathered surveillance video, processed evidence, and conducted numerous witness interviews. At approximately 4:00 p.m., officers located and arrested Kitty Mia Diaz and Amaya Cookie Diaz without incident.
“A short time later, officers located and arrested Kyandra Renee Faz in connection with the investigation. All three suspects were transported to the Del Rio Police Department for booking and processing.

“At approximately 9:00 p.m., investigators were notified that the victim had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.”
After Peña died, all three women were charged with murder. Police said the investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional charges have not been ruled out.
According to reports, Peña is survived by her five children, including a 17-year-old son, as well as a twin sister. Friends described her as devoted to her family and known for helping others in the community.
Video of the sisters being detained has since circulated online, showing officers arresting them outside their home.
In the footage, Kitty appears to be smiling as she is led to a police vehicle. Amaya can also be heard laughing after shouting at a man behind her to ‘stop recording’.
Local journalist Michael Elizondo told the New York Post that one of the sisters appeared unusually cheerful during the arrest.
“She was all smiling, goofing off like nothing happened,” she said.
“All of the sudden I see the window go down, and the girl was sticking out her face, sticking out her tongue and goofing off,” Elizondo added.
