Marvel Rivals players have been stunned by a fresh batch of skins, with one new Captain America design in particular getting a lot of attention for how little it leaves covered.
The superhero shooter currently features a growing roster of Marvel heroes and villains, and Captain America is usually recognized for his classic red, white, and blue battle gear.
With the Fourth of July weekend here, a stars-and-stripes-themed look makes sense. But this latest version of Cap has definitely sparked some raised eyebrows.
The outfit puts the character in a skin-tight patriotic swimsuit that highlights his physique front and center, including one detail that many fans were quick to point out online.
Put simply, the fit appears to be doing very little to hide anything.
The skin is part of Marvel Rivals’ Rivals Summer Festival event, which launched on June 18 and runs through early and late July depending on the activity. The update added a beach-themed social hub at Hellfire Bay Beach, alongside the new Swimsuit Special cosmetics and a number of summer event rewards.
The game has already built a reputation for bold and revealing costume designs, but that didn’t stop players from reacting strongly as they headed to X to share their thoughts.

“I’m sorry but this is way too far,” said one user, while another wrote: “This is just actually weird, right?”
A third angry fan penned: “I don’t think that’s appropriate? I know loads of kids that play this game. but maybe im overreacting? Tell me if I am!”
Not everyone agreed, though, with some arguing that the design follows the same approach already seen with several of the game’s female character skins.
“I don’t see the controversy; it’s in line with the rest of the skins,” said one.
A second echoed: “I think this skin is covering way too much, the female skins have way less fabric.”
When promoting the cosmetic earlier this week, the official Marvel Rivals X account wrote: “The beach crew voted Captain America should man the grill, just like the red, white, and blue-blooded specimen of American masculinity people believe he is. Unfortunately, his skills on the grill were not nearly as calculated as his shield throws.”

They then added: “First Appears in Marvel Swimsuit Special (1992) #1.”
That reference points back to Marvel’s long-running Swimsuit Special line, which returned in 2025 and came back again this summer with MARVEL SWIMSUIT SPECIAL: BRAND NEW BEACH DAY #1, a new one-shot on sale July 1, 2026, packed with beach-themed stories and pinups.
Still, many players think this new in-game version emphasizes the look even more than the original source material did.
Despite the attention surrounding it, the Captain America swimsuit isn’t the only cosmetic released in the July 2 update.
Loki and White Fox also received beach-themed skins as part of the same patch, while the broader summer event added costumes for Mister Fantastic, Emma Frost, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man and more.
Captain America has also been in the spotlight for another reason recently, with Anthony Mackie confirmed to appear as Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, in Avengers: Doomsday, which is now scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026.
