Adam Sandler added another unforgettable moment to his resume by officiating Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding, but what he did shortly afterward may be even more on-brand.
The 59-year-old actor reportedly helped the celebrity couple tie the knot on Friday, July 3, 2026, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Less than two days later, he ended up making a call to law enforcement for a reason that had nothing to do with an emergency.
There was no trouble involving the Grown Ups star. Instead, Sandler had one very specific mission in mind and turned to local police in hopes of making it happen.
After celebrating the Fourth of July in New Hampshire, Sandler made his way to Nantucket, Massachusetts, for the rest of the weekend.
Once he arrived on the island, he contacted the Nantucket Police Department’s non-emergency number.
His reason for calling was simple: he wanted to find somewhere to play pickup basketball.
While most people probably wouldn’t think to ring the police over a basketball game, Sandler apparently felt it was worth a shot.

Dispatcher Chris Reynolds later described the unexpected exchange to the Nantucket Current and shared exactly what Sandler said when he called.
“Sandler said, ‘Hey, I’m here on your island and I like to play basketball. Can you tell me where there’s a basketball court I could play on?’ ”
Reynolds pointed him toward a court near Surfside Road, where local players were already in the middle of a game.
Andrew Kesler, one of the players there, said it was a surreal sight when Sandler arrived at the Backus Lane court.
“Adam Sandler rolled in a car and started playing pick ups with the boys,”
“He’s like ‘guys let me stretch I’m going to hop in.’ ”
And once he joined in, the big question became how well the comedy icon actually handled himself on the court.
“Great passing and playmaking, decent lay-ups, hesitated to shoot the ball,”
Adam Sandler was on Nantucket today – less than 48 hours after officiating the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden – and guess what? The legendary actor stopped for a quick game of pickup basketball at the court off Backus Lane.

Sandler’s love of basketball is no secret. He was reportedly playing in the New York City heat only hours before stepping in to officiate Swift and Kelce’s wedding.
His friendship with Kelce grew while working on the 2025 Netflix sequel Happy Gilmore 2, which features a cameo from the NFL star.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Sandler spoke warmly about Kelce and what it was like sharing the set with him.
“such a gentle, nice guy, and funny as hell”
“He’s like the guys I grew up with,”
“When I was with Travis, it reminded me of my buddies in high school and just being able to laugh and say the things you want to say.”
He also had plenty of praise for Swift in that same conversation.
“incredible”
“Taylor is so damn nice to my family and has always been,”
“My kids have met Taylor a bunch of times over the years, and she’s ridiculously nice to them and warm.”
Swift and Kelce’s wedding was one of the most talked-about celebrity events of the year, with Sandler’s surprise role at the ceremony quickly becoming one of its most memorable details. His post-wedding basketball hunt only added to the story, proving once again that even when he’s in the middle of a major Hollywood moment, Sandler still has one priority on his mind: getting a run in.
