If you’ve ever thought you could handle the White House better than the people actually campaigning for it, there’s now a way to test that theory. An online electability quiz claims to show how your approach might land with American voters, arriving as Donald Trump’s newest approval figures are also in focus.
Plenty of people have sat through a political argument or debate and come away convinced they could offer a stronger plan for the country.
Some share those views openly with family and friends, while others keep their ideas to themselves, but most people still have opinions on how the US ought to be governed.
Of course, believing you have the right answers is very different from persuading millions of voters to back you.
That is where the online presidential electability test comes in, offering participants a rough idea of how they might be received if they ever launched a bid for the Oval Office.
This comes at a time when Trump is also seeing movement in his approval numbers, even as tensions between the US and Iran have risen once again.
According to the latest Silver Bulletin update on July 7, 2026, the president’s net approval rating was about minus 17, an improvement from roughly minus 18.5 a month earlier.
Unlike approval ratings, which are based on opinion polling, the electability quiz is aimed at people who simply want to see how they might perform as a presidential candidate.
The test itself is presented as a personality-based exercise rather than a policy exam, asking users to think about traits that might matter to voters beyond a set of promises or positions.
Participants are asked whether they agree or disagree with a series of statements designed to assess political personality traits rather than policy detail.
One of those statements says: “I do what I want without worrying about what effects this has on others.”
Another reads: “If I were in power, I would be remembered as one of the best politicians this country has had.”
The quiz is based on the work of Aubrey Immelman, Ph.D., and says its model has “accurately predicted several outcomes related to presidential elections since 1996”.
The underlying test is described by its creators as a way to gauge how well a person might resonate with independent and unaffiliated voters, especially those who pay close attention to a candidate’s personal qualities.
Another statement presented to users is: “I dislike making decisions without input from others.”
There is also: “I dislike sharing the credit for an achievement with others.”
Rather than testing where someone stands on headline issues, the assessment reportedly focuses on the “candidate’s personal qualities”.
That means it is less about whether a participant can name a foreign policy position and more about whether they project the kind of traits voters often associate with leadership, confidence and political appeal.
Commenting on Trump’s latest approval figures, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said: “No other president in history has accomplished more for the American people than President Trump, who is working tirelessly to create jobs, cool inflation, increase housing affordability, and more.”
