Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley and his family are safe following an attempted home invasion at their residence in Tredyffrin Township, Pennsylvania, early Saturday morning, authorities confirmed. The incident marks the latest in a troubling pattern of break-ins targeting high-profile athletes across the country.
Police were called to Barkley’s home in the Malvern section of Tredyffrin Township shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday for a report of a burglary in progress. At least one suspect entered the home while Barkley and his family were inside, but the intruders fled before officers arrived at the scene. According to Captain Tyler Moyer of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department, “They were home, and fortunately, as you know, with any situation like this, our main concern is that the residents of that home at the time were unharmed, which they were.”
Investigators believe nothing was stolen from Barkley’s home during the attempted burglary. Police are currently searching for at least two suspects and have released photographs of a white SUV believed to be connected to the incident. Authorities indicated there may have been additional vehicles involved, with Moyer stating that detectives are still working to determine the exact number of perpetrators.
The Chester County District Attorney’s Office has appealed to the public for assistance with the investigation. “We are asking the public to help us identify those responsible by checking any home security cameras for suspicious activity in the area around 5:00 a.m. If you saw anything unusual or have video that may assist investigators, please contact the Tredyffrin Township Police Department immediately,” the office said in a statement.
This break-in represents another incident in a concerning trend that has intensified over recent years. In 2024, the NFL, NBA, and other professional sports leagues warned their teams about organized criminal groups targeting the homes of well-known athletes. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce were among the earliest high-profile victims, spurring law enforcement agencies to increase their focus on the issue.
Other athletes who have experienced similar break-ins in recent years include Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley Jr., Dallas Stars player Tyler Seguin, and NBA player Bobby Portis. Federal prosecutors have been actively investigating these crimes, with charges filed against multiple individuals.
In February 2025, federal prosecutors charged seven men in connection with burglaries targeting several professional athletes. Court documents indicated that the suspects were connected to a South American theft group responsible for stealing approximately two million dollars in goods from the homes of Mahomes, Kelce, and other athletes. One individual pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 24 months in prison in June.
Because of this documented pattern, local police have signaled that they will work with federal and other law enforcement agencies to determine whether Barkley’s home invasion is connected to the larger organized crime ring. Captain Moyer told local media that his department intends to contact federal authorities to explore potential links to these ongoing investigations.
Barkley, who began his NFL career with the New York Giants in 2018, joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024. He had a standout first season with the team, earning Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2024 after excelling both as a rusher and receiver for the Eagles’ offense.
