Reported pay details for the cast of The Odyssey have surfaced, including an estimated breakdown of how much each actor earned per scene, with the movie said to have carried a $250 million budget.
Christopher Nolan’s newest epic arrived in cinemas on July 17, retelling the story of Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, and the dangerous voyage he faces on his way back from the Trojan War.
The film has made an immediate impact commercially, with its worldwide box office total standing at about $264 million after an explosive opening weekend. That haul includes roughly $124.5 million in North America and about $139.6 million internationally, making it Nolan’s biggest global debut to date.
Its ensemble is packed with major stars, led by names such as Matt Damon and Tom Holland, alongside Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, and others.
That level of star power does not come cheap, and reported figures published by Times Entertainment claim to show what several of the cast members were paid.
Damon leads the film as Odysseus and has the highest scene count of any character.
He appears in 46 scenes and is said to have earned the biggest salary among the cast at $15 million, which works out at more than $326,000 per scene.
Holland plays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, and features in 24 scenes overall.
His reported salary was $10 million, meaning his pay comes to roughly $416,666 for each scene.
Zendaya takes on the role of Athena, who is beheaded in front of Odysseus before later haunting him throughout the film.
Although she appears in only six scenes, she is reportedly said to have earned about $5 million, or around $833,333 per scene.
The actor portraying Penelope, Odysseus’ devoted wife, is reported to have been paid between $4 million and $5 million.
With 16 scenes in the film, that would put the figure at approximately $312,500 per appearance.
The Twilight star plays Antinous, a man trying to persuade Penelope to marry him while also plotting to murder Telemachus.
He appears in 14 scenes and reportedly received about $6 million, which comes to roughly $428,571 per scene.
Page was cast as Sinon, a Greek soldier and cousin of Odysseus who fights alongside him during the Trojan War.
According to the reported figures, Page was paid $1.5 million for a role spanning six scenes.
That means his earnings worked out at about $250,000 per scene.
