Details from recent leaks involving The Odyssey have emerged, with reports claiming that millions of people viewed a high-quality pirated version of the film on social media.
Christopher Nolan’s newest release has made a strong impression since hitting cinemas, earning praise from both reviewers and audiences.
At the time of writing, The Odyssey holds a 94 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, reflecting the enthusiasm surrounding the film.
The movie has already become a major box office success, drawing huge cinema crowds around the world.
However, for anyone who had not yet seen it on the big screen, a full version of the film briefly surfaced on X over the weekend. Variety reported that more than 2.1 million people watched the high-quality upload within about two and a half hours.
The account responsible was later suspended, and the video was eventually removed.
Released in cinemas on July 17, 2026, The Odyssey is being presented in premium large-format releases, including IMAX 70mm screenings. Universal has also highlighted that the film was shot entirely with IMAX film cameras, making the big-screen experience a major part of Nolan’s intended presentation.

The Hollywood Reporter also said a lower-resolution version of the blockbuster appeared on X on Sunday. That upload was reportedly removed after two hours, by which point it had been viewed around 50,000 times.
In response to the leak, Universal Pictures issued a statement.
“We became aware of the unauthorized posting of the film and immediately initiated takedown protocols. We take copyright infringement seriously and will pursue all appropriate remedies to protect our content and intellectual property rights.”
So far, the piracy issue does not seem to have hurt the film’s financial performance. In its second weekend alone, The Odyssey brought in an enormous $215 million.
That pushed its worldwide total to $639 million after an already massive opening weekend.
Separate from the leak itself, X owner Elon Musk has publicly criticised Nolan’s adaptation and reportedly offered Mel Gibson $100 million to create his own take on The Odyssey.
His criticism has focused heavily on the casting.
“Who specifically is the a****** who added DEI lies to Academy Awards eligibility instead of it just being about making the best movie?”
Musk has also accused the filmmaker of “desecrating” the original material and argued that the creative choices show disrespect toward Greek culture.
He has additionally suggested that his AI tool, Grok Imagine, could produce what he described as a more historically accurate version of the story.

The production later moved through Scotland as well, shooting along the Moray Firth Coast and at Findlater Castle and Culbin Forest.
