Savannah Guthrie posted an emotional video on social media Monday, nearly six months after her mother’s disappearance, making an urgent appeal directly to whoever may be holding Nancy Guthrie. In the tearful message, the Today show co-host begged her mother’s kidnappers to do the right thing and reveal her whereabouts.
“It has been months since our mom was taken from us,” Guthrie said in the Instagram video. “Our family is in agony. We are in a nightmare that will not end. Nothing about our situation has changed.” She continued, “So I’m asking you, begging you, to do the right thing now make the right choice. Help us find her. Tell us where to look for her. I truly believe it is never too late to do the right thing.”
The impassioned plea comes more than 25 weeks after Nancy Guthrie, 84, vanished from her home in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, Arizona. She was last seen on the evening of January 31, when family members dropped her off at her residence following a dinner and game night. The next morning, when she failed to appear for her regular church gathering—a ritual she never missed—loved ones discovered she was gone.
Authorities quickly determined that Nancy Guthrie did not leave voluntarily. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators believed she was taken against her will, noting that she had limited mobility and could not have simply walked away. Security systems at her home had been disabled overnight, and surveillance footage from a doorbell camera showed a masked individual dressed in dark clothing, a backpack, and gloves outside her residence early on February 1. The FBI recovered the destroyed Ring camera footage and described the suspect as a male, approximately 5’9″ to 5’10” tall, with an average build, armed and dangerous.

A law enforcement source told investigators that blood drops led from the entryway outside down the house’s pathway toward the driveway, suggesting a violent abduction. In the days following Nancy’s disappearance, ransom notes were sent to media outlets and the family. The situation was complicated when the FBI determined that some of the notes were extortion attempts without legitimacy, though some ransom demands continued to be evaluated as potentially legitimate. A second note claimed that Nancy had died following the kidnapping and included an apology from the kidnappers.

The FBI initially posted a $100,000 reward, which was later increased to $200,000 and then to $1 million on February 24.
