Christina Applegate has been discharged from a Los Angeles hospital after nearly four months, according to reports. The 54-year-old actress, who has battled multiple sclerosis since her diagnosis in 2021, is now home and doing well, sources close to the star told TMZ on Monday.
Applegate was admitted to the hospital in late March, though the exact reason for her lengthy hospitalization was never officially disclosed. Her representative declined to provide details about her medical treatments or circumstances surrounding the admission, stating instead that she has “a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about.”
News of her discharge marks the end of an unusually extended hospital stay that spanned nearly four months during spring and summer. The reason for the hospitalization remains unclear, and it is not known whether it was directly connected to her multiple sclerosis diagnosis or another health issue.
In April, shortly after hospitalization reports emerged, Applegate broke her silence on Instagram to share an update with her followers. “Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes,” she wrote. “Health issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better every day. I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough.”
The diagnosis of multiple sclerosis came to Applegate in June 2021, though she did not publicly announce it until August of that year. She revealed the diagnosis while filming the final season of the Netflix series “Dead to Me.” The autoimmune disease affects the central nervous system and can cause numbness, weakness, mobility challenges, and vision problems, among other symptoms.

Since her diagnosis, Applegate has been remarkably candid about her MS journey, documenting the physical and emotional toll the disease has taken on her life. In February 2026, while promoting her memoir “You With the Sad Eyes,” she revealed to People magazine that she is largely confined to her bed due to pain and other symptoms. Despite her limitations, she emphasized that the only time she leaves the house is to drive her 15-year-old daughter, Sadie, to school.
“I want to take her; it’s my favorite thing to do. It’s the only time we have together by ourselves,” Applegate told the magazine. “I tell myself, ‘Just get her there safely and get home so you can get back into bed.’ And that’s what I do.”
Applegate shares her daughter Sadie with her husband, Martyn LeNoble, a Dutch-born musician who was a founding member of the 1990s rock band Porno for Pyros. The couple married in 2013, two years after Sadie’s birth. LeNoble has been a steadfast support system for Applegate throughout her health struggles, including her 2008 breast cancer diagnosis.

In her efforts to give voice to the MS community, Applegate co-hosts the podcast “MeSsy” with actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who has lived with the condition for more than 20 years. The two women launched the show in 2024 and have used it to discuss their health journeys with candor and humor. Due to Applegate’s extended hospitalization, the podcast has been on hiatus.
In May 2026, Sigler shared an update about her co-host while promoting her new memoir on “Good Morning America.” “Christina has shared openly about having health issues, but she is getting better and stronger everyday,” Sigler said. “She’s amazing, we’re in contact, so she’s doing a lot better.”
Earlier this year, Applegate revealed on the “MeSsy” podcast that she has been hospitalized more than 30 times since her MS diagnosis in 2021, often due to severe pain, vomiting, and other complications related to her condition. She has spoken extensively about the gastrointestinal symptoms the disease causes her and the emotional toll of managing such a serious chronic illness.
Despite the significant challenges posed by multiple sclerosis, Applegate has continued to demonstrate resilience and determination. Her memoir, released in 2026, documents her journey with the disease and her efforts to maintain her quality of life. In interviews and on her podcast, she has advocated for greater understanding of MS and the importance of support systems in managing chronic illness.
Her co-star on “Married… with Children,” David Faustino, provided a glimpse into Applegate’s strength during her recent health struggles. Speaking to the media in June, Faustino noted that while the past months have been difficult for his longtime friend, she has maintained her trademark sense of humor. “It’s been very hard for her, but she does keep her humor,” he said. “She gets through this with some humor, and that’s kind of her way that she moves through it.”
