Jason Showers, 45, and his wife, Megan Showers, 38, both of St. Clair Shores, Michigan, each face decades in prison if convicted of charges tied to Monday’s incident.
Jason Showers and Megan Showers were arraigned for allegedly throwing an explosive device into a neighbor’s yard, with Megan lighting it and Jason throwing it. The neighbor, a 72-year-old man, reported seeing the words “Bye, Bye” written on the red cylindrical explosive.
The incident took place Monday, August 3rd, at a home on Maxine Street near Greater Mack.
David, 72, was coming home from the grocery store around 8:45 p.m. on Monday when it all unfolded.
“I put them on the kitchen table, I looked right out the window,” David recounted. “And he’s got his arm cocked back, she lights the fuse and it lands right here. And then its sparking, and smoking and smoldering and I’m waiting for an explosion and nothing happened, thank the Lord.”
The neighbor quickly managed to extinguish the dangerous device before it fully detonated.
“And one of his favorite things to do was to put explosives on my gas meter, you can see one of them over here,” David said. “I was living like in constant on the edge and discomfort not knowing what is he going to do next.”
The victim said the incident was just the most recent in a long series of explosive attempts at his life.
When asked if the couple wanted to harm him, David replied “Oh yeah, he definitely wanted to harm me in a serious way,” adding “He’s got this explosive device there.”
“I had one in my bedroom window. And shout out to St Clair Shores Police, state police, they did an outstanding job,” David said.
Police responded to the scene and quickly apprehended both Showers.
Law enforcement entered the Showers’ home with a search warrant, finding firearms, ammunition and other materials used to make explosives.
Jason Showers was charged with one count of placing explosives near a property, one count of possession of bombs with unlawful intent, two counts of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, two counts of felony firearm, and one count of habitual offender – fourth offense notice.
Megan Showers is charged with placing explosives near property and possession of bombs with unlawful intent, both counts punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
Jason Showers was also charged as a habitual offender on his fourth offense, meaning he could face life in prison if convicted on any count other than felony firearm.
Michigan criminal records show that Jason Showers has a lengthy, dangerous past. He went to prison in the early 2000’s for Manslaughter with a Motor Vehicle, Operating Under the Influence, and several weapons offenses.
“The allegations in this case are serious and especially troubling because they involve a senior member of our community,” Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido said in a statement.
The judge granted Jason Showers a $100,000 cash-only bond.
However, records show that he is still behind bars at the Macomb County Jail. If he posts bond, he would have to wear a steel cuff GPS tether, the judge ordered. He would also be prohibited from returning to his home or having any contact with his wife or the neighbor.
Megan Showers’ bond was set at $20,000, but the judge gave her the ability to pay 10% through a bail bondsman.
If they post bond, they may not have any contact with one another or the alleged victim.
Other neighbors on the block expressed alarm at the couple’s history.
“There’s always drama going on at that house, something is happening,” one neighbor said.

on August 3, Megan Showers allegedly lit the explosive device Jason Showers was reportedly holding prior to him throwing it in their 72-year-old neighbor’s yard. The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office said the explosive device, described as a red, cylindrical device with the words “BYE BYE,” was extinguished by the neighbor.
The neighbor was able to extinguish it before it exploded and called police.
The explosive was extinguished by the neighbor and there were no injuries reported.
Both are scheduled back in court August 14.
