A dirt bike rider leading police on a chase through Los Angeles pulled over at a gas station to refuel mid-pursuit in a bizarre moment caught on camera.
The suspect, who police believe is armed, was seen racing around South Los Angeles before stopping at a gas station to fuel up, according to footage from the chase. The rider then hopped back on his bike and peeled away, tearing off a piece of the pump as he sped off.

The rider was also spotted holding his cellphone to his ear and scrolling through the device during the chase, all while wearing a head covering that concealed his face. The multitasking display added to the already surreal nature of the pursuit, which unfolded in broad daylight through busy city streets.

The chase highlights a growing pattern of dirt bike riders engaging in dangerous pursuits with law enforcement across the country. In April, California Highway Patrol officers chased a dirt bike rider through South Los Angeles and Compton before the suspect finally stopped near S. Ainsworth Street and W. Alondra Boulevard, where he laid on the ground and was arrested. That rider had appeared to record himself with CHP vehicles following behind during the pursuit.
In another recent Southern California incident, a group of dirt bike riders came dangerously close to an allegedly armed suspect fleeing police in a stolen white SUV on the 110 Freeway. The SUV driver encountered nearly a dozen motorcyclists performing stunts, including wheelies, as police followed. That chase ended in downtown Los Angeles when the suspect drove into a parking garage.
Other cities have grappled with similar issues. Baltimore Police have begun cracking down on illegal dirt bike riders by targeting gas stations, with owners facing up to $1,000 in fines or 90 days in jail if they allow dirt bike riders to fill up at their pumps. Col. Ryan Lee, chief of patrol with the Baltimore Police, stated, “We’re not talking about people who are just out riding to have a good time. There are many more nefarious things that are also going on with it.”
In the viral moment that sparked this latest incident, the rider’s decision to stop for gas mid-chase demonstrated an audacious disregard for the pursuing officers. The suspect managed to fuel up and flee before police could close in, leaving behind a damaged pump and a trail of questions about how the pursuit would ultimately end.
Law enforcement officials have not yet confirmed whether the suspect was apprehended following the gas station stop. The incident remains under investigation as authorities work to identify the rider and determine the full circumstances that prompted the initial pursuit.
