Dominic Holland has revealed the unusual wedding gift he gave his son Tom Holland and Zendaya.
The comedian, 57, took to his Substack to share that he bought the newlyweds a set of engraved Japanese kitchen knives during a recent trip to Japan. Dominic and his wife Nikki traveled to the country, which he noted is famous for its blades, and found what he considered the perfect present for the couple.
“In discussing which knife to buy and how many, we inadvertently let on that one knife was destined for ‘Tom’ and ‘Zendaya’. He had only rudimentary English, but his ears pricked up,” Dominic wrote on his Substack.
“He knew us as Mr and Mrs Holland, and his agile mind began to whir. Not that too much detection work was really needed. I mean, how many Zendayas do you know? A quick Google search and his world exploded…”
The shopkeeper excitedly asked whether Dominic and Nikki were Tom Holland’s parents, which they confirmed. The comedian revealed that the man then asked if the young stars were married, and before long, a crowd had gathered around them asking for photos.
“If this is the excitement that we provoke, I can only imagine what it must be like being the real Holland of interest,” Dominic penned on his Substack.
“One of the seductions of fame is creating such excitement and making people’s day. But this must also be exhausting.”
The following day, Dominic and Nikki returned to collect the engraved knives. The shopkeepers attempted to give them the items for free, though the couple insisted on paying full price. Dominic wrote that they allowed the shopkeeper to post photos to Instagram, but asked him not to reveal that the knives were gifts for Tom and Zendaya in order to preserve the surprise.
“We agreed he could post his photos to Instagram, but I asked him not to mention that the knives were gifts for you-know-who, so as not to ruin the surprise. Not that Tom scrolls IG anymore, and he certainly does not read my witterings on this Substack,” Holland’s father penned.
Dominic added that he hopes the young knife entrepreneur’s shop becomes as packed as the café Tom and Zendaya visited during their press tour in Shanghai.
For months, fans had speculated whether Tom Holland and Zendaya had secretly married after going public with their relationship in 2021. The speculation intensified when social media users posted AI-generated images of a supposed wedding at Lake Como, Italy. The fake images were so convincing that Holland’s own grandmother believed them, thinking her grandson had held the ceremony without her.
It was this very incident that prompted Holland, 28, to confirm the marriage. When recounting the story in an interview with Esquire, the actor was asked whether he had needed to reassure any other family members about the fake wedding photos.
“No, because they were all there,” Holland replied.
He then shut down further questions, adding: “That’s all you’ll get on that.”
The “Euphoria” star, 28, has similarly kept details private. Neither she nor Holland have shared wedding photos publicly, and their families have largely stayed quiet about the event.
Dominic’s Substack post marks one of the first times a family member has offered any concrete detail about the couple’s life post-wedding.
The knife revelation comes as rare insight into how the couple is navigating married life. While Dominic joked about his son not reading his Substack, his decision to share the gift story publicly suggests the family is gradually opening up about the relationship.
