Former Disney child star Raquel Lee has sued the Walt Disney Company for negligence over alleged on-set sexual abuse during filming of a 2001 movie.
Lee, 39, filed the lawsuit Friday in California, according to the complaint viewed by Page Six. She was 14 years old at the time of filming “The Poof Point,” a Disney Channel original movie shot in Salt Lake City. The actress alleges a “middle-aged, male Disney employee” sexually assaulted her multiple times during production, including at the cast and crew hotel and on a flight returning to California.
The unnamed employee also gave her alcohol, the lawsuit claims. According to the filing, he whispered inappropriate comments like “last night was so good” to her on set in front of other adults, yet no one at Disney intervened. Lee further alleges production separated her from her guardian and failed to provide appropriate supervision during filming.
Her behavior changed dramatically after the alleged abuse, the complaint states. Lee claims Disney executives blamed her for her deteriorating performance rather than investigating, then canceled her upcoming role with the studio.
Lee’s attorneys, Douglas Wigdor and Jane Kim, said in a statement regarding the case: “Over the last decade, countless child actors have come forward to bravely share their experiences of abuse by adults in entertainment. As former government prosecutors, our message to the entertainment industry is simple: This conduct is inexcusable, and those involved — directly or indirectly — must be held accountable.”
The lawsuit does not specify a dollar amount but seeks damages for economic losses and emotional distress, plus punitive damages, attorneys’ fees and other costs. Disney had not responded to the lawsuit as of the initial report.
Lee continued working with Disney after “The Poof Point,” providing voiceover work on the animated series “The Proud Family” from 2001 to 2005. She returned for the Disney+ revival “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder,” which ran from 2022 to 2025.
In the viral moment that brought renewed attention to her experiences in children’s television, Lee appeared in the 2024 Investigation Discovery docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.” The bombshell series examined toxic workplace conditions and alleged abuse behind the scenes at Nickelodeon. In that docuseries, Lee discussed her experience working on Nickelodeon’s “The Amanda Show,” but she did not bring up her allegations against Disney at that time.
“The Poof Point,” about an experiment that causes two inventors to grow progressively younger, also starred Tahj Mowry, Mark Curry and Dawnn Lewis. The Disney Channel original movie premiered in 2001 during a prolific period for the network’s made-for-television films.
Disney has not publicly responded to Lee’s lawsuit.
