An Uber Eats delivery driver was removed from the platform after attacking a Barstool Sports security guard in a caught-on-camera brawl at the company’s Manhattan headquarters.
Dave Portnoy, 47, the founder and president of Barstool Sports, posted footage of the Monday afternoon fight to X, where it quickly drew millions of views. The incident unfolded around 2 p.m. At the company’s Midtown office on Seventh Avenue, according to police.
“We had a crazy scene today at Barstool World Hq,” Portnoy wrote on X. “An uber eats driver got in a fight with Gia in the hallway over her order. Our security guard Dan went into the hall to tell the guy to leave and he attacked him.”
The NYPD confirmed officers responded after a verbal dispute turned physical. A 31-year-old man punched a 45-year-old man multiple times in the face, police said. A person of interest was taken into custody and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities did not specify what triggered the initial confrontation between the delivery driver and the Barstool employee identified as Gia.
Portnoy’s footage shows the security guard, Dan, being knocked to the floor and dragged across the ground by the delivery driver. The courier then got on his knees and struck the guard repeatedly in the face, according to the video.
Three Barstool employees rushed in to intervene, attempting to pull the driver off their colleague. The footage shows the courier continuing to swing at the staffers as they worked to subdue him. The employees eventually managed to restrain the man and called 911.
The security guard was treated at the scene by responding officers. Portnoy later gave an update on Dan’s condition.
“Danny may need a few stiches [sic] and a couple beers,” Portnoy wrote on X. “All in all another day at the Stool.”
Portnoy also used the incident to take a political shot at New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, whom he has previously said he would “love to” challenge in a mayoral election.
“Shoutout Mandami’s [sic] NYC,” Portnoy bitterly remarked in his X post, sarcastically thanking the mayor for the attack.
Uber moved swiftly to distance itself from the courier. A company spokesperson issued a statement condemning the violence.
“We are horrified by the conduct displayed. Violence is never tolerated, and we’ve removed the courier’s access to the Uber platform,” the spokesperson said. “We stand ready to assist police however we can.”
The incident marks another viral moment for Portnoy, who has built his media empire on candid, often provocative commentary and behind-the-scenes access to Barstool’s chaotic office culture. The company did not immediately return a request for comment on the brawl.

The guard’s injuries were treated at the scene, though Portnoy indicated he may need stitches. The delivery driver now faces potential criminal charges as the NYPD investigation continues.
