A 13-year-old boy was stabbed in the stomach outside a Bronx supermarket Saturday afternoon and rushed to the hospital in stable condition, police sources said.
The attack occurred at 5:23 p.m. Outside C-Town at 1612 Westchester Avenue in the Soundview neighborhood, according to police sources. EMS workers transported the wounded teen to Jacoby Hospital on Pelham Parkway following the assault.
Blood was visible on the concrete sidewalk as police officers cordoned off the area in front of the store. No arrests have been made, and the search for the assailant remains ongoing, police sources said.
The stabbing came just days after another daytime attack in the Bronx left a New York City Schools employee dead. Rashaun Shettlewood, 32, a Department of Education paraprofessional, was fatally stabbed in the chest at Davidson and West Tremont Avenues in Morris Heights at approximately 3:30 p.m., police sources said.
Shettlewood’s 33-year-old friend was also stabbed in the torso during the same incident. Both men were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital, where Shettlewood succumbed to his injuries. His friend was listed in stable condition, police sources said.
The motive in Shettlewood’s killing remained unclear, though a police source said it stemmed from a dispute. The alleged attacker, Jeffrey Jorge, 37, of Brooklyn, was arrested the following morning after officers spotted him wielding a knife at Ocean Avenue and Parkside Avenue in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.
Jorge was charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter and two counts each of assault and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the NYPD.
The back-to-back violent incidents have rattled residents across the borough. The Saturday attack on the 13-year-old unfolded in broad daylight outside a busy neighborhood supermarket, adding to concerns about public safety in commercial corridors.
The investigation into the teen’s stabbing remains active as detectives continue searching for the unidentified assailant.
