90 Day Fiancé Stars Jenny and Sumit Share Heartbreaking Update on Her ALS Battle and Make Desperate Plea

Jenny Slatten has lost her ability to speak as her ALS battle worsens.

The “90 Day Fiancé” star, 68, can no longer talk on her own, her husband Sumit Singh, 38, revealed in a devastating video posted to Instagram on Sunday. In the clip, Singh asks Slatten if she wants to say something to their fans. She slowly responds, “No, I can’t talk.”

Singh explained that the disease’s progression is now unmistakable. “Unfortunately, the ALS is progressing and it’s starting to show more in her talk, like, it’s hard for her to talk now,” he said in the Instagram video. Her physical decline has spread beyond speech. Singh noted she struggles increasingly with walking and maintaining her balance, pointing to weakening muscles in her backbone, neck and spine.

The couple’s medical hopes have collided with immigration barriers. Singh said he wants Slatten to return to the United States for better treatment than they can access in India, where she relocated to marry him. But his U.S. Visa remains unapproved, and neither wants her to travel alone. Their fear is that once she begins treatment in America, she might never be able to return to India.

“If I don’t get the visa, it means that we will be apart forever,” Singh said. “This is a reason Jenny doesn’t want to go to America without me.”

Singh pleaded for assistance and drew a parallel to fellow “90 Day Fiancé” cast members Armando Rubio and Kenny Niedermeier, who received substantial support last month when Rubio was blocked from crossing the border from Mexico into Arizona. Rubio’s 13-year-old daughter Hannah had been hospitalized with a medical emergency, and after their case gained attention, Rubio secured a humanitarian visa to see her.

Singh said he would provide any documentation needed to obtain a visa to accompany Slatten. “I hope someone will be able to come up with a solution, maybe a lawyer or attorney or someone, a specialist in immigration or something,” he shared.

The couple has been transparent about Slatten’s condition since revealing her amyotrophic lateral sclerosis diagnosis in May. Last month, they clarified that she had not been hospitalized, though her speech was already showing noticeable effects of the disease. In that earlier Instagram video, Slatten assured followers, “I’m OK. I talk slow but I’m able to take care of myself … with help from him,” Singh added then, “I’m always there for her.”

In Sunday’s update, Singh expressed his devotion and frustration in equal measure. “We love each other, and obviously, I want Jenny to start getting treated and I want Jenny to start feeling better or at least [have] a support system that makes [her] at least feel like, not, struggle every day,” he said. He voiced uncertainty about whether their situation would ever satisfy embassy requirements: “If [our relationship and medical plans] are not enough for the embassy in order for me to get a visa, I don’t know whatever situation or condition I will ever be approved.”

The pair first appeared on “90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way,” documenting Slatten’s move from Palm Springs, California to India to be with Singh, whom she met online. Their relationship faced significant obstacles including a 30-year age gap, family opposition, and Singh’s previous secret marriage. They wed in 2021 after years of conflict with his parents, who had arranged a marriage for him when he was younger.

The couple continues posting updates to Instagram as they navigate Slatten’s declining health and their uncertain travel prospects.
