A pink sticker on Lindsay Clancy’s wheelchair sparked fresh debate among trial watchers Wednesday as her murder case neared a sixth day of jury deliberations.
The small decal, reading “#sidebah,” was spotted attached to a drink holder carrying a Diet Coke on the 33-year-old former nurse’s wheelchair. The phrase appears to reference the Boston-accented pronunciation of “sidebar” by her defense attorney, Kevin Reddington.
Reddington’s distinctive accent drew attention Thursday when he discussed a sidebar in which a juror allegedly “refused” to follow the legal definition of “reasonable doubt.” The revelation prompted an impassioned plea from Reddington to dismiss the holdout juror, though the judge declined his request. The jury, comprised of nine women and three men, has now spent close to 40 hours deliberating Clancy’s fate over six days.
The origin of the sticker remains unknown. It is unclear whether Clancy placed it on her wheelchair herself or if someone else did so on her behalf. The lighthearted quip puzzled some social media users who have followed the grueling, six-week trial.
“#LindsayClancy has the audacity to put a ‘joke’ sticker ‘SideBah’ on her drink holder?!?!!! Does she think that’s all a joke?!” one user wrote on X.
“The kids are in the ground and she thinks this is a damn joke?? Tell me that’s not who she is,” another user said.
Reddington, who has held Clancy’s hand through tough moments of the trial, has become a feminist icon among many supporters of postpartum mothers following the case.
Clancy stands accused of murdering her three children—Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan—with exercise bands in their Duxbury, Massachusetts home. The former labor and delivery nurse then slit her wrists and throat and threw herself from the second story of the home, leaving her partially paralyzed. She claims she should be found not criminally responsible, arguing she was in the throes of severe postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings.
The jury will return to deliberate on Friday.
