Lindsay Clancy supporters crashed the district attorney’s post-mistrial press conference Friday, drowning out Timothy Cruz with chants of “corrupt” and “shame.”
Cruz, 64, had stepped to the microphones outside the Massachusetts courthouse to address reporters about the deadlocked jury in the case of Clancy, 33, the mother accused of strangling her three young children while claiming postpartum psychosis. The declaration of a mistrial came after jurors failed to reach a verdict.
“You only cared when the kids were dead! Why don’t you care about the mother?” one supporter yelled from the crowd, cutting through Cruz’s prepared remarks.
The prosecutor pressed on, dismissing the outburst. “Insensitive is killing three children. Insensitive is ignoring those facts,” he fired back. “We have an obligation to stand up for those people.”
The confrontation escalated as dozens of backers, many clad in pink shirts and buttons reading “Peace for Lindsay” and “Justice for Lindsay,” chanted in unison. “Shame!” they called out. “Vote him out!” Others shouted, “DA Cruz is corrupt!” One woman in a pink top positioned herself directly behind Cruz, thrusting a thumbs-down gesture toward the cameras throughout his statement.
The so-called “pink lady” supporters have become a fixture of the proceedings, massing outside the courthouse in shows of solidarity that have sometimes veered into controversy. Earlier in the week, Dawn Light, 56, a self-described crime junkie, was arrested outside the same courthouse for allegedly photographing jurors. She pleaded not guilty to aggravated intimidation of a juror.
Tracey Wright, 54, a Clancy supporter from Cape Cod, told The Post she scrapped her Labor Day weekend plans and fought through heavy traffic to make it to the courthouse for the verdict. “I just had to be here,” she said.
Cruz kept his focus on the victims even as the demonstration raged behind him. “In the end, I bring it all back to the child victims in this case, Cora, Dawson and Callan. This was, and it has always been, about getting justice for those three little babies. We’re here at this courthouse today because those children are not,” he shared.
He continued, “Children were murdered and it’s our job to seek justice,” He added that the case centered on “the cruel, calculated killing of three innocents.”
Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, has drawn his own following from the supporter base, with backers hailing him as a staunch advocate for women’s rights. The defense’s argument that Clancy suffered a severe psychiatric episode has fueled both sympathy and fierce debate, with malicious conspiracy theories also proliferating online, including the baseless claim that her husband Patrick Clancy committed the killings and framed her.
The original incident that launched the case unfolded in January 2023, when Clancy’s five-year-old daughter Cora, three-year-old son Dawson, and eight-month-old son Callan were found dead in the family’s Duxbury home. Prosecutors allege Clancy used exercise bands to strangle the children before attempting suicide by jumping from a second-story window. She survived with serious injuries and was hospitalized for months before being charged with murder.
Cruz told reporters no decision had been reached on whether to retry Clancy.
