Jackie DeAngelis is suing Whole Foods after a dog attack left her hand permanently disfigured.
DeAngelis, 46, the Fox Business Network co-host of “The Big Money Show,” filed her complaint in Manhattan Supreme Court on Aug. 20, according to court records. The financial correspondent claims she was shopping at the Whole Foods location at 10 Columbus Circle in September 2023 when a black pit bull mauled her left hand.
Police who responded to the scene confirmed the bite to The Post. By the time officers arrived, both the dog and its owner had already fled the upscale grocery store.
The attack left DeAngelis with lasting damage. She underwent hand surgery following the incident and has been left “permanently disfigured,” with limited mobility and an inability to perform certain tasks, her suit states. She is seeking unspecified damages for both emotional distress and her accumulating medical expenses.
DeAngelis places blame squarely on Whole Foods, arguing that the dog was not a service animal and therefore should have been barred from entering the store. The grocery chain’s own policy strictly prohibits regular pets from coming inside, though it makes an exception for service animals in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
“[Whole Foods] failed to reasonably enforce its own policies, practices and/or procedures concerning animals entering and remaining within the subject store,” the suit said.
The Cornell-educated anchor graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Asian studies and history before earning her law degree from Rutgers School of Law. She is also a breast cancer survivor.
DeAngelis spent more than a decade at CNBC prior to joining Fox Business Network in 2019, where she served as the network’s chief energy correspondent. She now co-hosts “The Big Money Show” on the Fox Business channel.
Fox declined to comment on the lawsuit. DeAngelis and Whole Foods did not return requests for comment.
