Fourteen concertgoers were hospitalized during The Chainsmokers’ outdoor show in San Jose last Friday night.
The San Jose Fire Department posted on X Saturday that crews were dispatched at 8:22 p.m. On Sept. 4 to Discovery Meadow, an urban park in downtown San Jose, for reports of “multiple patients requiring medical attention.” The department detailed its emergency response in the social media post, explaining that additional resources were mobilized rapidly to handle the developing situation.
“SJFD immediately requested an Ambulance Task Force, two additional advanced life support fire units, and a Battalion Chief to manage the incident and provide additional medical resources,” the department shared. “A total of 14 ambulances responded, and 14 patients were transported to local hospitals.”
The EDM duo — Alex Pall and Drew Taggart — took the stage at Discovery Meadow that evening as part of their ongoing tour schedule. The Chainsmokers have not issued any public statement regarding the mass medical incident at their San Jose concert.
The day after the emergency, the pair posted concert footage Sunday on Instagram without acknowledging the hospitalizations. The condition of the 14 transported fans remains unknown, and representatives for the group did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The San Jose episode marks the second time in weeks that multiple fans have required emergency medical care at a Chainsmokers performance. At their set last month at Splash House’s “After Hours” event at the Palm Springs Air Museum, seven people were rushed to the emergency room after a fight broke out and bottles were hurled into the crowd. Police said that a total of nine people were injured at the Palm Springs show, with some concertgoers cut by broken glass.
Friday’s incident also follows a pattern of recent medical emergencies at major live music events. Country music star Garth Brooks performed a secret show Sept. 3 at a Denver, Colorado, venue under the name “Yukon Jack,” drawing more than 2,000 fans. More than 25 people required medical attention during that performance, reportedly due to temperatures exceeding 90 degrees.
While the San Jose Fire Department confirmed the scale of its ambulance deployment, local police offered a slightly different account of the hospitalization numbers. ABC7 reported that police told the outlet 10 people had to go to the hospital, with many of those cases attributed to alcohol or drug-related issues. The discrepancy between the fire department’s count of 14 transported patients and the police figure of 10 was not explained in available reports.
The Chainsmokers continue their performance schedule without public acknowledgment of either medical incident.
