Security personnel intercepted an unidentified woman who had illegally entered the grounds of Kamala Harris’s $8.15 million Malibu estate Friday night, prompting a police response to the former vice president’s coastal property.
Harris, 60, and her husband Doug Emhoff were not present when the incident occurred, according to spokesperson Eduardo Negrón. Officers from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene around 10:30 p.m. After receiving a call about the woman outside the home.
The woman had been dropped off by an Uber and initially contacted security at the gated property, a sheriff’s department spokesperson said. After being told she could not remain, she departed but later returned, triggering the trespasser report to law enforcement.
Police took a report at the scene. The woman was neither arrested nor cited, and authorities said she never entered the residence itself, voluntarily leaving when deputies asked her to do so. The incident was first reported.
Negrón addressed the breach in a statement to media outlets.
“Last night, security personnel stopped an individual who illegally entered Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff’s property before the individual reached the home,” Negrón said. “Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff were not present. They are grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly.”
The motive for the woman’s presence remains unknown. The four-bedroom, six-bathroom home, which Harris purchased in January, sits on three-quarters of an acre and features a heated pool, in-ground spa, fire pit, gated entry, and Pacific Ocean views.
Lt. Jason Duron of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station told the California Post that patrols in the area would increase following the incident.
“We’re gonna keep an eye on the location. I’m directing my deputies to keep an eye on it,” Duron said.
The security response highlights the unusual circumstances surrounding Harris’s post-White House protection status. Unlike most top former American executive branch officials, she does not have Secret Service protection after President Donald Trump revoked it in August of last year.
Most former vice presidents receive six months of protection after leaving office. Former President Joe Biden had extended Harris’s coverage by an additional year after that standard period ended, but Trump eliminated it entirely during his return to the presidency.
The Malibu purchase in January marked a new chapter for Harris following her 2024 presidential campaign. The $8.15 million transaction placed her in one of Southern California’s most exclusive coastal enclaves, though Friday’s incident demonstrated the property’s vulnerability to uninvited visitors despite its gated perimeter.
Harris’s team has not indicated whether additional private security measures will be implemented at the estate.
