Japanese adult film actress Hana Kuraki has died at age 25 in an apparent suicide.
Kuraki, 25, was found dead Saturday at an apartment in Tokyo’s Kabukicho red-light district, according to Sakito, a local bar owner who spoke out on social media to address the tragedy. The club owner wrote that a friend of Kuraki’s discovered her body at his apartment and then contacted him; he went to the scene to assist and speak with Tokyo police.
Sakito took to social media to correct misinformation that had begun circulating online. “I am deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of the passing of Hana Kuraki. I offer my sincere condolences,” he wrote, refuting earlier claims that he had been the one who found her body.
The bar owner also revealed that Kuraki had confided in him about relationship difficulties before her death. He urged the public to stop spreading speculation about the circumstances. “I hope that no further harm comes to the deceased or those around her through misinformation or speculation,” Sakito wrote.
He added a pointed message about the broader context he believed contributed to her fate. “I also hope for a world free of people who use violence to control others or drive them to such desperate straits,” he continued.
Kuraki had entered the adult film industry in 2024 and was scheduled to appear at an adult industry expo in Taiwan later this year. Her career had been abruptly interrupted just months before her death.
In June, she announced an indefinite hiatus due to injuries from a traffic accident. “Announcement: I’ve decided to take a break for a while, so I’ll be suspending activities for a certain period. (I do want to keep up with filming if I can). As for the events currently scheduled, I’ll provide an update when I can,” Kuraki wrote in a post on X at the time.
The hiatus had stemmed from face and jaw injuries sustained in the collision, leaving her future in the industry uncertain. She had expressed hope of eventually returning to filming despite the setbacks.
Sakito’s detailed account of events represented a rare instance of someone connected to a deceased performer stepping forward to manage the narrative and push back against rumors in Japan’s adult entertainment industry, where performers often face intense scrutiny and stigma.
Kuraki’s death adds to ongoing concerns about mental health pressures faced by young women in Japan’s entertainment and adult industries, though specific circumstances surrounding her suicide remain under investigation by Tokyo authorities.
