Autumn Setola used her nose to dial her boyfriend after being shot twice during a deadly North Carolina home invasion.
Setola, 20, was critically wounded Thursday morning when alleged shooters Cory Armstrong, 29, and Camryn Moore, 26, opened fire inside the Gastonia home on Forbes Road where all four had been living. The attack left two people dead and Setola’s stepbrother, Keaton, also fighting for his life alongside her.
“She is independent. She is strong. … She’s a very kind girl,” Monica Shelley-Henson, mother of Setola’s boyfriend Jacob “Jake” Henson, told The Post on Tuesday. “She’s definitely someone who will meet you where you are.”
The shooting spree stunned neighbors in the suburban community located just miles from the South Carolina border. Setola was struck twice and lost the use of her arms, yet still managed to reach her phone and contact Henson for help.
“She said, ‘I’ve been shot by Cory,'” Henson told WCNC of the chilling call. “I ran. I had no shoes on. My shirt is backwards.”
Shelley-Henson confirmed the extent of Setola’s injuries and her remarkable effort to get help. Setola “couldn’t move her arms and didn’t understand why, but she managed to get her phone and call Jake by using her nose,” she said.
Henson, in a panic, bolted out his front door barefoot, jumped into his car and sped toward the Forbes Road house while phoning 911. “[I was] driving over there and calling 911 to let them know,” he said.
The fear of not knowing what awaited him consumed Henson during the frantic drive. “I was freaking out. Please let her live. I didn’t know how bad it was,” he said, according to WCNC.
Paramedics were already swarming the scene when Henson arrived. Setola and Keaton were rushed to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, officials said Friday. She remains in critical but stable condition and has been undergoing surgeries daily, according to Shelley-Henson.
Two other victims were found dead at the home by emergency responders: Victoria “Heather” Moore, 50, and Josiah Bumgardner, 38, who were Camryn Moore’s mother and uncle. Josiah had previously transitioned from a female, Megan, and had been identifying as male, according to the family.
The alleged killer couple fled across state lines into southern Ohio, triggering a manhunt that ended Friday when both died of gunshot wounds following a wild police chase. North Carolina authorities told The Post both deaths are being investigated as a possible double-suicide, though Ohio State Highway Patrol has not yet confirmed that finding.
What sparked the pair’s alleged bloody rampage remains unclear.
