Kim Kardashian has been awarded a single euro in damages following a French court’s ruling on the 2016 Paris armed robbery that left her bound and gagged in a hotel bathtub.
The reality star, 44, requested only the symbolic sum despite roughly $6 million in jewelry being stolen during the violent overnight heist at a private residence in the French capital. Her longtime childhood friend Simone Harouche, who was present in the building during the October 2016 incident, made an identical one-euro claim. Both women were granted their requested amounts when the court delivered its verdict.
The damages decision came after eight defendants were convicted on charges connected to the robbery, while two others were acquitted following the criminal trial that unfolded earlier this year. Kardashian took the stand during those proceedings, testifying about an experience she has publicly called the most terrifying of her life.
In a statement shared after the ruling, Kardashian wrote: “We are grateful to the French justice system for recognizing us as victims of the terrible events that took place in Paris in 2016.”
She continued: “The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us. Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition.”
The star spoke jointly for herself and Harouche in the statement, adding: “We are thankful to the Court and everyone who supported us throughout this process, and we hope to now move forward and continue to heal.”
Kardashian expanded on her reaction in a separate follow-up comment to the same outlet. “The crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving a lasting impact on me and my family,” she said. “While I’ll never forget what happened, I believe in the power of growth and accountability and pray for healing for all. I remain committed to advocating for justice, and promoting a fair legal system.”
The one-euro awards to the two women stood in sharp contrast to other payouts from the same case. The former hotel receptionist on duty that night, who claimed to have been left traumatized by the events, was awarded $126,472. The hotel property itself received $57,741 in damages.
During the robbery itself, masked men broke into Kardashian’s rented accommodation in the early morning hours, restrained her with plastic zip ties, held a gun to her, and placed her in the bathroom. The assailants made off with a ring and other pieces whose combined value reached approximately $6 million.
The experience prompted a dramatic public shift in how Kardashian discussed wealth and material possessions. During a 2017 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she told the host that she believed the robbery was “meant to happen” to her.
“I was definitely materialistic before,” she admitted on the program.
She added: “I am such a different person now…I really feel like things happen in your life to teach you things. I’m so happy proud that my kids get this me and that this is how I’m raising my kids, because I just don’t care about that stuff anymore.”
The mother of four has maintained that transformed perspective in the years since, frequently citing the Paris incident as a turning point in her relationship with luxury goods and public displays of wealth.
