KJ Biermann’s release from jail will come with a stripped-down life under court order.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Melynee Leftridge amended the 15-year-old’s bond conditions on Sept. 15 to require he surrender his passport to his pretrial officer before walking free, according to a court filing. The “Real Housewives of Atlanta” alum’s son must also abide by every stipulation laid out at his bond hearing, with the judge making clear those earlier rules “remain the same.”
That earlier hearing, held Sept. 11, set the teen’s bond at $200,000. His release date has not been announced. KJ has been held at Atlanta’s Metro Regional Youth Detention Center since his Aug. 17 arrest.
The passport surrender adds to an already severe regimen. At the bond hearing, KJ was ordered to hand over his cellphone, stay off all social media, remain at his mother’s home, and attend school virtually. Electronic monitoring will track him upon release. He is banned from any direct or indirect contact with the alleged victim, her family or associates, and prohibited from contact with anyone under 16.
Sexual assault case expert and former prosecutor Lindsay Richards, who is not involved in the case, predicted exactly this kind of restrictive arrangement earlier this month.
“I think there’s a likelihood he’ll be released and he will have a lot of conditions of his release,” she said. “I think he’ll be on a GPS. He’ll probably be on house arrest, having to do school at home.”
KJ faces seven felony charges tied to two separate alleged incidents. Earlier this month, a grand jury indicted him on aggravated child molestation, aggravated sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, false imprisonment and three counts of aggravated sexual battery against a child under 16. Prosecutors allege that incident occurred in Alpharetta, Georgia, earlier this year.
The April 23 sauna encounter at a Life Time fitness center led to his arrest. A female classmate told investigators KJ forced himself on her after she said no, according to court documents. The filing claims he made “multiple” attempts to pull down her pants and have sexual intercourse with her. She also accused him of forcing oral sex and digitally penetrating her vagina.
Prosecutors dropped a bombshell during the bond hearing: multiple videos of KJ having sex with an underage family member were found on his cellphone, they claimed. That alleged incident, reported in April 2023, had put him under court supervision since October 2023.
KJ’s attorney, Jason Sheffield, has maintained his client’s complete innocence. In a statement, Sheffield said KJ is “100% innocent” and claimed to possess evidence proving it.
Zolciak, 48, has stood publicly behind her son. In a statement via her representative in August, she declared: “He categorically denies ever being involved with this woman or engaging in the conduct.”
She continued, “We remain confident that the facts and evidence will establish the truth, and we ask that people allow the proper process to take its course rather than spreading unproven allegations.”
Both Zolciak and estranged husband Kroy Biermann, 41, appeared at the Sept. 11 bond hearing, though they arrived separately and did not interact. Two days later, the former couple were spotted attending church together.
