Peter Mossfield says he feels “great” despite spending 77 days consuming 24 beers daily while taking steroids and skipping every workout.
Mossfield, who runs the Instagram account BoozeBagFitness, said in May that his extreme regimen has given him “the body and the physical presence to match who I actually am.” The social media personality launched the challenge after a previous bet — where he claimed he could get addicted to alcohol and then quit — earned him $5,000 from several losing gamblers.
The 77-day experiment saw Mossfield’s weight climb from 191 pounds to 208 pounds without him lifting a single weight. He relied entirely on steroid use and heavy drinking to reshape his physique, documenting the daily transformation for his followers. “I know everyone says the gear will make me irritable, but it’s more like having a chip on my shoulder knowing I’m on the way to greatness and not having time to listen to a word of negativity from anyone questioning me or hating on me as I get there,” he explained to the outlet.
The physical toll has been undeniable. “Sleep is bad and I’ve been cramping a lot, but nothing another supplement or IV can’t fix in my opinion,” Mossfield shared. He added: “Really proud of what my body’s been able to take.”
Medical professionals have sharply criticized the stunt. Dr Kathryn Basford at Asda Online Doctor said that combining anabolic steroids with heavy alcohol consumption dangerously compounds risks to the heart and liver. “Both substances can damage the heart and liver, so combining heavy alcohol with steroids significantly increases these risks,” she warned.
Dr Basford outlined the specific dangers for men misusing steroids: infertility, erectile dysfunction, hair loss, and increased risk of testicular cancer. For women, the drugs can disrupt periods, cause hair loss, and trigger excess facial and body hair growth. Both sexes face elevated risks of heart attack, stroke, liver and kidney problems, high blood pressure, deep vein thrombosis, and high cholesterol.
The psychological effects are equally concerning. Dr Basford noted that steroid misuse can lead to “aggressive behaviour, mood swings, paranoia, and even hallucinations.” She emphasized that alcohol amplifies these dangers significantly, potentially causing cirrhosis, tumors, pancreatitis, and liver failure.
Mossfield has already pivoted to his next phase. He declared he is not quitting alcohol entirely but has switched to vodka mixed with Diet Coke. He also plans to increase his steroid dosage to “get really shredded” while continuing to avoid the gym. His new “cut” phase consists of eating some eggs and mixing protein powder into his drinks.
The original challenge emerged from Mossfield’s pattern of making high-stakes bets about his body. After successfully completing his alcohol addiction and recovery wager — and collecting thousands from doubters — he sought a more elaborate test. The suggestion to add steroids came from someone else, allowing him to pursue muscle growth without the typical exercise requirement.
Dr Basford stressed that steroid-built muscle without training differs fundamentally from genuine fitness gains. “Steroids can cause fluid retention, potentially making muscles appear bloated or soft,” she said. “Muscle gained without training is usually unsustainable if the drug use is stopped.”
Mossfield remains undeterred by medical warnings or online concern. He is currently training for a “beer marathon” — running 26 miles while consuming 26 beers — and has set his sights on an MMA fight. He estimates he is only halfway to his target physique for the bodybuilding competition he plans to enter, suggesting his regimen will continue intensifying.
The social media figure has built his brand on defying conventional health wisdom. “Defying science to build the physique I want,” reads his self-stated motto. Whether that philosophy can sustain him through competitive bodybuilding, endurance drinking events, and combat sports remains an open question.
Mossfield’s next scheduled appearance is the bodybuilding competition he is preparing to enter.
