Ciara Miller turned her reality-TV heartbreak into ballroom fire on Tuesday night.
The “Summer House” star, 28, and pro partner Brandon Armstrong, 30, delivered a Tango to Disco Lines and Tinashe’s viral hit “No Broke Boys” on the “Viral Hits”-themed episode of “Dancing With the Stars.” The routine landed them an 18/30 from the judges and, more notably, marked Miller’s public reclamation of a painful chapter.
Miller laid the subtext bare before she danced. “One time a broke boy ruined my life — or he tried. But we’re here tonight, so it didn’t work,” she told co-host Julianne Hough, 36, of the inspiration behind the song choice. The “broke boy” reference pointed directly at ex-boyfriend West Wilson, whose secret relationship with Miller’s now-former best friend Amanda Batula exploded across “Summer House” Season 10 and dominated Bravo headlines for months.
In a pre-recorded package, Miller reflected on judge Carrie Ann Inaba’s feedback from the previous week. Inaba had told Miller she could “see the pain” within her, a moment Miller called “so special.”
“I’ve been fighting seven years on reality TV to be seen without people calling me so dramatic. I’m not the type of girl that loves to talk publicly, so this is such a display of vulnerability, and that’s frightening,” Miller added of her “DWTS” journey so far.
The package also captured Miller’s growing confidence. “Last week was very vulnerable and this week has me feeling braver,” she said, noting that she’s excited to show the audience “a different side of [herself].” While the footage played, she kept rehearsing with Armstrong, deliberately tuning it out.
The performance itself brought the ballroom to its feet. “Ciara has entered the building,” Inaba declared afterward, praising Miller for her “ferocity” on the dance floor.
Miller’s personal life became tabloid fodder earlier this year when Wilson and Batula confirmed their relationship via a joint statement on their Instagram Stories in March. “It was never our intention to purposely hide anything,” they wrote. “Given the complicated relationship dynamics involved and the scrutiny that comes with being on a reality show, we needed a little space to process things privately before speaking on it.”
The pair emphasized their history, stating they’d “shown up for each other as friends over the years, through all the highs and lows,” and that what developed “was the last thing either of us expected.” They described their “connection” as growing “out of genuine, long-standing friendship,” which made it “especially important” to approach their confession “with care.”
“As our feelings evolved, we wanted to take time to understand exactly what we were feeling,” the statement continued, adding that they didn’t want their actions “to cause any hurt or be perceived as careless.”
Sources told outlets shortly after the post that Wilson and Batula were in a “full-blown relationship,” and that Miller alongside Batula’s estranged husband, Kyle Cooke, were “pissed” and “disappointed.”
The fallout consumed the three-part “Summer House” Season 10 reunion, which aired in May and June. Cast members struggled to process the timeline of Wilson and Batula’s relationship as it was called into question, with Miller at the center of the emotional storm.
She has since shut the door on any reconciliation. When asked by People earlier this year if she and Batula were “dunzo,” Miller replied bluntly, “Yeah, for sure,” She added, “I wouldn’t do this to my worst enemy.”
During the reunion’s final installment, Miller rejected an apology from Batula outright, calling the act of her starting a relationship with Wilson — especially behind Miller’s back — “a big f–k you” to her.
The off-camera consequences have reshaped the show’s cast. Wilson was axed from “Summer House,” Batula exited ahead of Season 11 production, and Miller signed on for the forthcoming season.
Armstrong, meanwhile, has guided Miller through two consecutive weeks of emotionally charged performances. The partnership appears to be clicking as Miller leans further into the spotlight she once resisted.
