Jon Hamm opened up about becoming a first-time father during a “Late Night With Seth Meyers” appearance Tuesday evening.
The “Your Friends & Neighbors” star, 55, told Meyers he is “very excited and deeply terrified” about wife Anna Osceola’s pregnancy. He added that he doesn’t think those conflicting emotions should ever “go away.”
Hamm subsequently poked fun at his age, joking about his “old dad” status. “When your kid is 70, you’ll be like, ‘I did it!’ When I’m 152,” he said.
News that Hamm and Osceola, 38, have a baby on the way first surfaced in August. The actress debuted her baby bump on the Emmys 2026 red carpet in a striped gown, and Meyers noted Tuesday that she picked the “peak” time to show off her budding belly.
Hamm agreed with the host’s assessment. “I’m not saying she did it on purpose, but it was some timing,” he said.
The Emmy winner and Osceola have been together since 2020, though they first met five years earlier while filming “Mad Men” in Big Sur, California. They tied the knot at that same location in June 2023.
While the couple generally keep their relationship private, Hamm shared rare details about their nuptials five months after the ceremony during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” He described the wedding as “very sparsely attended, by our decision” and “small.”
“It was perfect,” he gushed to viewers. “Man, it was great.”
Before his relationship with Osceola, Hamm dated actress Jennifer Westfeldt for nearly two decades. During that time, he confessed to the outlet that he’d be a “terrible father.”
In a 2012 Playboy interview, the Golden Globe winner expressed ambivalence about parenthood. “I don’t have a driving force to have a baby. That said, I’m in a committed relationship, and if it ever came up, I’m not ruling it out,” he said.
He also swore off marriage in that same interview. “I don’t mean to say that it shouldn’t mean things to other people. It’s just my experience. I don’t have that paragon of married life to look at and think, ‘Oh yeah, that’s it! That’s what I want!'” he explained.
Hamm’s Tuesday remarks mark a notable shift from his earlier stance on both marriage and fatherhood, positions he has since reversed with his 2023 wedding and forthcoming child.
