Travis Kelce has broken his silence on the wedding-ring celebration that turned his wife into Sunday’s most-talked-about fan.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 36, addressed Taylor Swift’s viral “that’s my husband!” moment during Wednesday’s episode of his “New Heights” podcast, telling listeners he was “just doing my deed as a husband.”
“The internet is having a good old time with this s–t,” he added, according to the podcast.
Swift, also 36, sparked the online frenzy during the Chiefs’ home victory over the Indianapolis Colts at Arrowhead Stadium. When Kelce scored his first touchdown of his 14th NFL season, the Grammy-winning singer pointed to her wedding ring and shouted the now-ubiquitous phrase from her stadium suite.
Kelce’s reaction came paired with his commentary on the memes that quickly multiplied across social platforms. One image he referenced showed Swift with the caption, “Me when my husband actually finds all the right stuff at the grocery store.” Another compared her enthusiasm to how someone should “react when [their partner] fix[es] the WiFi by plugging it out and back in.”
A third meme, fired off by an X user, read, “My CEO neurosurgeon wife watching me shotgun a beer under 3 seconds.”
The pop star’s choice of game-day attire also drew notice: a red Chiefs tank top designed by sportscaster Erin Andrews. She shared the suite with her parents, Scott Swift and Andrea Swift, alongside her mother-in-law, Donna Kelce.
The touchdown marked Kelce’s first score of the young season, and his wife’s response instantly overshadowed the on-field action in social-media traction.
Kelce’s podcast remarks weren’t his only recent praise of Swift’s football acumen. During Friday’s “New Heights” episode, he and guest Tom Cruise discussed the singer’s rapid education in the sport.
Cruise, 64, had watched the Chiefs’ season opener with Swift a week earlier and later appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” to recount the experience.
“She’s a genius. I’ve been following her since she was a kid,” the actor told Fallon’s viewers, adding that she has a “great sense of humor” and spent the evening “schooling [him] on football.”
“She knows her stuff,” Cruise continued.
Kelce echoed that assessment when Cruise brought it up on the podcast.
“She knows everything,” Kelce said. “She sees the flags coming in, like, ‘Oh, that might be a defensive hold.’ Like, ‘What’d you say, sweetie?’ She’s like, ‘That’s encroachment.’ I’m like, ‘You know what that is?'”
“She’s on it now,” he continued. “She got fully engulfed in it.”
The couple wed in July, and Swift has become an increasingly visible presence at Chiefs games since they began dating. Her appearance with Cruise at the previous week’s opener had already generated headlines before Sunday’s ring-pointing celebration eclipsed it.
Kelce’s self-deprecating podcast response framed the moment as routine marital obligation rather than exceptional spectacle. “Gotta make my girl proud,” he summarized.
The Chiefs will continue their season with upcoming home and away matchups as Kelce chases additional touchdowns and, presumably, additional suite celebrations.
