A 911 caller pleaded with Carrot Top to keep his eyes open after the comedian was found unconscious at his Las Vegas home last week.
The unknown female caller, who had been asked to check on Scott “Carrot Top” Thompson, 61, by one of his employees, discovered the performer with his feet dangling in a pool and his face turning blue on Sept. 18. She told dispatchers she was unable to move his legs and that he was slipping in and out of consciousness.
“Stay awake. Stay awake. Stay awake,” she begged Thompson during the emergency call. “He’s passing out now.”
The caller informed officers that Thompson had tried to “commit suicide,” according to the recording. Dispatchers instructed her to lay Thompson on his back and monitor his breathing in case CPR became necessary.
Thompson’s representative said on Sunday that the performer “remains hospitalized and under close medical care.” The spokesperson added that Thompson was “now awake, breathing on his own and continuing to improve, surrounded by his family and those closest to him.”
The outlet had previously reported that Thompson allegedly overdosed on prescription pills.
The incident emerged publicly through bombshell court documents filed Sunday by Thompson’s attorney, who confirmed the suicide attempt. The filing was made in response to an ongoing legal battle with Thompson’s former opening act, Brian Evans.
Thompson’s lawyer requested “immediate protective relief” to bar Evans from “exposing [Thompson] to ill repute, false allegations, and salacious materials.” The attorney alleged that Evans had attempted to extort his client over a sex tape, previously threatening to release the recording unless he was paid $500,000.
Evans denied the claims in a statement. “I never threatened — ever — to post any video anywhere in exchange for a settlement,” he said. Evans added that the video “was deleted a long time ago.”
Thompson’s long-running residency at the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas has been canceled as he focuses on recovery.
The comedian built his career on prop-heavy physical comedy and became one of Las Vegas’s most recognizable Strip performers over multiple decades at the Luxor.
Thompson’s next scheduled performance date has not been announced as he continues medical treatment.
