Lady Gaga’s own inner circle was left in the dark about her baby news until the public found out, insiders say.
Multiple sources close to the 40-year-old Grammy winner said that “nearly nobody knew” about the birth before it became public knowledge. The “Bad Romance” singer’s “closest confidantes … had no idea,” one insider shared, underscoring just how tightly the performer managed to keep the secret.
The source described Gaga as “extremely happy” and noted that she “keeps her circle tight as it is.” Since welcoming her child, she has largely withdrawn from public life and is spending considerable time in Northern California with fiancé Michael Polansky, 42. “She’s loving being a mom,” the insider continued. “She wanted to do these big tours and I think now she’s done performing at least for a very long while. She just wants to be a mom now.”
Another insider — a friend of the singer who only learned the news from the outlet’s initial report — said they were “not offended” by Gaga’s decision to keep the birth private. The individual has been supportive of her choice to stay out of sight since her “Mayhem” tour wrapped in April.
“It’s amazing. I’m so excited for her and happy that they kept her a secret,” the friend gushed. “It’s a healthy thing for her to be able to have secrets with her partner. They have an amazing biodome of love that they have. Seems like a really safe place for her.”
This same insider made clear they are “pro Michael” and “very pro of her being able to have some of semblance of a normal life carved out.” The first source likewise emphasized that Polansky is a “really nice, normal guy.”
The path to motherhood was not an easy one for the singer, born Stefani Germanotta. “Stefani’s had a hard road to travel physically,” a source explained. “There have been moments of giddiness and moments of despair. It has been so sad. It’s a real tale of hard times, both physical and emotional, en route to this happy ending.”
The physical toll has been substantial. “She’s had severe hip issues and a heap of other physical ailments, alongside everything she puts her body through when performing,” the insider added.
The outlet first reported earlier this month that Gaga’s baby had arrived, though the infant’s name, sex and date of birth were not initially known. The outlet subsequently reported last week that the songwriter welcomed a baby girl via surrogate on June 9 in Los Angeles. The 3-month-old is named Rose Bean — a choice with layered significance. Gaga performed “La Vie En Rose” in her 2018 film “A Star Is Born,” and her song “Born This Way” was inspired by activist Carl Bean.
Gaga and Polansky went public with their romance in 2020 and have been working to start a family since at least 2024, the same year the entrepreneur proposed, reports said. The couple has now “completely secluded themselves with the baby” in Northern California, according to the first source.
Gaga’s rep did not immediately respond to the outlet’s request for comment.
