Ree Drummond has stayed silent after her foster son was arrested on assault and drug charges in Alabama.
Jamar Goff, 23, was booked into Jefferson County Jail on Sept. 15 following an incident at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, according to jail records. Officers responded to a call about a suspicious person on campus and found Goff asleep without a shirt near a fountain.
Goff allegedly told officers he was waiting for someone to sell him “ice,” a street term for methamphetamine. Initially, he was not detained and was told to leave the premises. However, officers later discovered he had an outstanding warrant and tracked him down.
According to court documents, Goff ran from police but was eventually caught. He was transported to a local hospital, where he allegedly struck an officer. Officers also allegedly found a glass pipe and 1.8 grams of methamphetamine on his person, including in his backpack.
Goff now faces multiple charges including assault on a police officer, drug possession, attempting to elude an officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Reports said that Goff is currently homeless.
Drummond, 56, and her husband Ladd took Goff into their Oklahoma home as a teenager in 2018. The Food Network star has built a media empire around her Pioneer Woman brand, which includes cookbooks, a lifestyle magazine, and a popular television show filmed at her family’s ranch.
The TV personality has written about how Goff came into their lives in her book “Frontier Follies.” She admitted that “fostering a kid was never something [she or her husband] pursued or felt called to do, but Jamar’s circumstances presented themselves to [them] in a way we couldn’t ignore.”
Drummond recalled in the book how her family bonded with Goff after he injured his foot in an ATV accident, saying it “forced” them to “get pretty darn close” during doctor’s appointments and while helping him with mobility.
One of Drummond’s last public tributes to Goff came on Instagram in 2023, when she celebrated his 21st birthday. “With Jamar, there’s a whole universe going on in that mind and heart and soul of his. It’s a beautiful thing to behold,” she wrote.
“I can’t wait to watch his future unfold. I know it will be filled with good things. I love you, Jamar!!” she concluded in the post.
Drummond and Ladd are also parents to four biological children: Alex, Paige, Bryce and Todd. The family has regularly appeared on her television programs and in her social media content over the years.
The Pioneer Woman star has not publicly addressed Goff’s arrest or the allegations against him. Her social media accounts have continued with regular programming content since the Sept. 15 booking.
Goff’s case adds to a difficult period for the Drummond family, who have faced other challenges in recent years including Ladd’s serious neck injury from a crash on their ranch in 2021.
The circumstances that led Goff to the Alabama campus remain unclear. Police were first called regarding a suspicious person before discovering the warrant and alleged drugs.
Goff’s arrest marks a stark contrast to the future Drummond envisioned for him in her 2023 birthday message, where she expressed confidence that “good things” lay ahead.
Court proceedings in Jefferson County will determine Goff’s legal fate following the multiple felony charges.
