Dakota Johnson embraced her signature sheer aesthetic at the London premiere of “Verity” Thursday.
The “50 Shades of Grey” actress, 36, arrived on the red carpet in a delicately-woven beige lace gown by Colleen Allen, the designer’s creation featuring a plunging neckline with a shawl collar and a sleeveless cut. She paired the see-through dress with contrasting black lingerie by Fleur du Mal, emphasizing her slender frame.
Johnson styled her brunette locks in her signature straight look and added a black manicure, a gold necklace, a bracelet and several rings to complete the ensemble. She was photographed alongside co-star Josh Hartnett, 46, who wore a tieless black suit with balloon pants and a modern-cut jacket. The two appear together in the upcoming psychological thriller, which also stars Anne Hathaway.
The London appearance marks the latest in a long string of sheer looks Johnson has deployed at high-profile events. At the 2024 Los Angeles premiere of “Madame Web,” she wore a custom mesh crystal creation by Gucci layered with skin-toned underwear, the design intended to match the film’s theme. Following her split from Chris Martin, she stepped out in New York in June 2025 in a sheer black Nensi Dojaka bodysuit with a matching tulle midi skirt.
September 2025 brought two more skin-baring moments: a black lace dress with floral embroidery and exposed matching underwear for the Kering Foundation’s Caring for Women Dinner, and a vibrant purple sheer lace Gucci dress at the Zurich Film Festival. That December, she wore an off-white lace Chloé gown with a plunging neckline to the Red Sea International Film Festival.
Johnson addressed her revealing fashion choices directly in an October 2025 interview with Vogue Germany. When asked whether she worries her dresses are “too sexy,” she offered a blunt dismissal.
“I’ve been able to wear some of the most beautiful dresses, and I feel beautiful in them, so I wear them,” she told the magazine.
She added that she simply doesn’t “care” about such concerns.
The “Materialists” actress has developed what observers note is practically a mastered aesthetic around transparent and lace designs, returning to the look repeatedly across multiple premieres, festivals and charity events over the past year and a half.
“Verity,” directed by Michael Showalter, adapts Colleen Hoover’s bestselling psychological thriller about a struggling writer who accepts a job finishing a famous author’s series after the novelist suffers an injury. Johnson plays the title role in the film, which is set for release through Amazon MGM Studios.
The London premiere continues Johnson’s busy 2025, which has seen her promote multiple projects while maintaining her consistent presence in fashion conversations. Her collaboration with Hartnett in “Verity” represents one of several high-profile pairings in her recent filmography.
