Presley Gerber’s death certificate confirms he has been cremated and his ashes will remain at his parents’ Malibu home.
The 27-year-old model, son of supermodel Cindy Crawford, 59, and Casamigos co-founder Rande Gerber, 63, died Sept. 20 at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica, California, according to the document first. The official cause of death remains pending final toxicology results from the medical examiner, though a suspected overdose has been widely reported.
The records show Gerber was cremated following his passing, with his ashes designated to stay at the Crawford-Gerber family’s primary residence in Malibu. A private funeral service is being arranged by the family, including his younger sister, actress and model Kaia Gerber, 23, and is expected to take place within the coming week.
A family representative previously confirmed the death in a brief statement asking for privacy. “The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,” the representative said.
Gerber had spoken openly about his struggles with clinical depression, anxiety, and substance abuse in the years before his death. In February 2023, he appeared on the Studio 22 Podcast to discuss his hopes of helping others facing similar challenges.
“That’s what I really want to do — help people get out of whether you’re depressed [or] struggling with something that’s having a negative effect on your body,” Gerber said on the podcast. “What I hope I can do is have made the mistakes for some other people, so they don’t have to make the same mistakes that I made.”
His 2019 arrest for driving under the influence in California resulted in three years of probation, community service, and mandatory attendance in an education program after he pleaded no contest. He later stepped back from high-fashion runways to concentrate on recovery and mental wellness.
Gerber launched his modeling career as a teenager, signing with IMG Models at age 15. He went on to appear in campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger and Dolce & Gabbana, following the path of his mother and sister.
Former partner Charlotte D’Alessio, who dated Gerber from 2018 to 2020, posted a tribute on Instagram Stories in the days after his death alongside archival photos of the couple.
“Shared a pure love with you & for that I thank & honor your life,” D’Alessio wrote. “You deserved more time. You deserved more life. Very angry [about] this. Love u Pres. Up there, down here. Don’t ever doubt that. We all love you so much. I hope you can feel it.”
The Gerber family has not publicly commented beyond their initial statement requesting privacy as they prepare for the private memorial service.
