Malin Akerman promises her “Hunting Wives” character will stay just as provocative when the Netflix drama returns.
The actress, 48, said exclusively at the Sense of Home Gala earlier this week that Margo Banks remains “equally as engaging and salacious and sexy” in the upcoming second season. Akerman attended the charity event to honor her longtime friend Sophia Bush and Bush’s partner, former soccer pro Ashlyn Harris.
“I love my character,” Akerman continued. “She’s the best. I am so happy to be playing Margo Banks. She’s one of the most exciting characters I’ve ever gotten to play.”
The Swedish-Canadian star also teased that the dynamic between Margo and Sophie, played by Brittany Snow, shifts in the new episodes. “Their relationship maybe takes a bit of a turn this season,” she explained. “There’s a lot more fun to be had with other characters, not with me, but other characters have fun doing their thing as well, [so] we get to experience [that].”
Akerman’s enthusiasm for the campy role has been consistent since the show’s debut. Earlier this year, she was equally effusive while dishing on Margo to the outlet. “She’s unapologetic, sexually powerful — who doesn’t want to do that?” she told the outlet, noting that she’s “living vicariously” through the character and “enjoying every single moment to yield that power.”
However, she clarified that Margo is “not a great role model!”
The “27 Dresses” star has known Bush for more than two decades. “I have known her for, I want to say, over 20 years,” Akerman explained at the gala. “You know, she’s just one of my people. And Ash is, for me, newer. Now, I think we met for the first time about two years ago, maybe a year and a half ago. And I love and adore her. They’re just good, solid people, you know.”
The surprise Netflix smash centers around Sophie, a young woman from Cambridge, Massachusetts, who moves with her husband to Maple Brook, Texas, and becomes captivated by Margo, a charismatic leader of an elite cadre of wives known as the Hunting Wives. The soapy thriller, based on the novel by May Cobb, became an unexpected hit for the streamer when it premiered earlier this year, drawing viewers with its mix of mystery, wealth, and suburban intrigue.
A Sense of Home, the organization behind the gala Akerman attended, works to create homes and a community for displaced families and individuals.
Netflix has not announced a premiere date for “The Hunting Wives” Season 2.
