Erika has spoken out after millions watched her juggle a baby and stadium food while her husband sat nearby at a San Francisco Giants game.
The mother of two, whose last name was not published, issued a lengthy statement on Substack after the NBC Sports Bay Area broadcast went viral and drew brutal online attacks against her husband, Ramses. The clip, which has racked up more than 43.9 million views, showed Erika navigating the stands with an infant strapped to her chest and her arms full of concessions while Ramses remained seated. Giants announcers Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper provided playful commentary, with Krukow declaring, “If there’s ever a true definition of a multitasking mother, that is the deal right there,” and the pair dubbing Erika “mom of the year.”
Erika wrote that the evening started as a lighthearted family outing. “We initially thought the broadcast was funny,” she said. Friends and relatives flooded them with calls and texts as the clip circulated. “We laughed at the narration because anyone who knows our family knows how ridiculous it is to suggest that Ramses never helps with our kids,” she wrote on Substack. “But as the clip spread, people on the internet treated the announcers’ imaginary narration as evidence of our unequal relationship.”
The tone shifted dramatically as strangers began weaponizing the broadcast against the couple. Erika said she received furious messages insulting Ramses, with some commenters urging her to leave him. The harassment escalated to doxxing and direct threats. “Some of you have told my husband to kill himself,” she said. “To anyone who has done that: shame on you. My husband is a father, a son, and a person deeply loved by people who know who he truly is. Our children need their dad. I hope and pray you reflect on what you have written.” She noted that people had uncovered the family’s personal information, including names and phone numbers.
Erika laid out the context she said the cameras missed. She had gone to the bathroom and, on her return trip, offered to grab food for Ramses since she was already passing a stand. Ramses had offered to take the baby, but she wanted to keep the infant with her. He also offered to split the sandwich she brought him, and she told him to enjoy it. “There was no argument about ketchup. He didn’t tell me I forgot anything,” she said.
The game carried deeper significance for Ramses than the broadcast conveyed. Erika revealed that her husband was grieving a friend who had recently died, and the outing was his way of honoring that loss. “My husband will never admit it, but I know he’s been grieving him deeply,” she said. “That evening, I chose to take care of him. A camera catching me doing something for my husband doesn’t show all the times he has done something for me.”
Erika directed pointed words at Krukow and Kuiper, whose commentary she said inadvertently fueled the pile-on. “I believe you meant no harm. But your jokes helped turn a moment of love and support into something strangers used to ridicule my husband and judge our marriage,” she wrote. “What was a few moments of amusement on your broadcast became days of real pain for our family. I wish you had known what that night meant to him before making him the punchline.”
She closed with a plea for strangers to consider the lasting digital footprint of their cruelty. “To the people who insulted Ramses, please remember that our children may someday read your words or watch your videos,” she wrote. “I don’t want them to search for this memory and find strangers calling their dad a deadbeat.”
Krukow announced earlier this year that he will retire at the end of the 2026 season.
