Miłosz Sieliwończyk has spoken out about the moment a hit-and-run driver slammed into a teenage e-bike rider during his live broadcast in Poland.
The TVP.info reporter, who was covering a separate fatal crash near Kościerzyna on Tuesday, described the chaos that erupted when the collision unfolded directly behind him. The 14-year-old girl was riding along the side of a country road when a motorist struck her, shattering the car’s windshield and sending her flying through the air.
“At one point, I heard a bang behind me and the operator’s shout: ‘Oh Jesus!'” Sieliwończyk said.
“When I turned around, I saw a car driving away with a shattered windshield and a child lying there.”
The journalist immediately shifted from broadcaster to first responder. As the driver sped off, Sieliwończyk directed his cameraman to zoom in on the vehicle’s license plate so they could report it to authorities. He then walked over to assist the injured teen.
“We approached the girl. She was unable to stand. I saw blood stains on the scooter,” said Sieliwończyk.
Emergency crews arrived within three minutes of the crash. The injured teenager, who had been riding what Sieliwończyk referred to as a scooter, asked responders to contact her mother. The woman arrived at the scene on a bicycle a few minutes later.
The driver eventually returned to the crash site. According to Sieliwończyk, the motorist appeared to be in a state of shock and seemed confused about what had transpired.
“He must have been in shock too, because he got out of the car and asked if something had happened,” Sieliwończyk said.
The incident occurred while Sieliwończyk was in the middle of reporting on another tragedy—a fatal car crash in which a young boy had been killed. The reporter was broadcasting live for TVP.info, Poland’s public news channel, when the second collision added another layer of horror to an already grim assignment.
