Sophia Bush has revealed she and Ashlyn Harris secretly married more than a year ago.
The “Chicago P.D.” alum, 42, disclosed the nuptials took place in summer 2025 during a Vogue interview tied to her upcoming memoir, “And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress.” The intimate ceremony unfolded in upstate New York with Harris’ two children from her previous marriage to retired pro soccer player Ali Krieger in attendance — Sloane, 5, and Ocean, 4.
“The kids were just running and happy, and we picked flowers from the property and our daughter Sloane was holding them,” Bush told the magazine of the low-key celebration. “It was so fun for them, because it wasn’t this pressure-filled day that’s too much for young kids.”
Harris, 40, spent her athletic career “playing in stadiums in front of 60,000 people,” while Bush has portrayed characters “for tens of millions of people,” That shared experience of public life shaped their decision to keep the wedding private. “When you get to this stage in your life, you begin to unpack what’s yours and what’s always sort of been for everyone else,” Bush explained.
She described the evening as ending with roasted marshmallows, calling the occasion “so precious” with “zero pressure.” The actress added, “I will never forget it, and I think wedding days sometimes aren’t like that.”
The couple’s relationship first surfaced publicly in 2023, drawing attention partly because both women were exiting marriages at the time — Bush from entrepreneur Grant Hughes after 13 months, and Harris from fellow U.S. Women’s national team star Krieger after nearly four years. The timeline sparked speculation and online criticism about whether their romance began before those separations, though both women have maintained their relationship started after their respective marriages ended.
Bush and Harris have since been open about their connection in social media posts and joint appearances, with Harris celebrating Bush’s 42nd birthday in June and the pair vacationing together in Paris. The retired goalkeeper has two children with Krieger, and both women have continued co-parenting.
The Vogue interview marks Bush’s most detailed public comments on the relationship to date, timed to the July 22 release of her memoir. The book covers her life and career, including her time on “One Tree Hill” and “Chicago P.D.” and her activism work.
Bush’s reflections on the wedding emphasized intentionality over spectacle. The flower-picking, the casual atmosphere for the children, and the campfire conclusion all pointed to a deliberate rejection of traditional wedding pressure.
Harris has similarly shared affection publicly, previously posting tributes to Bush and discussing their relationship in interviews. The retired soccer star won two World Cups with the U.S. National team and played professionally in the NWSL before retiring in 2022.
The memoir promotional cycle is expected to continue with additional interviews and appearances through late July.
