Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer are legally single again after a decade-long separation.
The former couple’s marriage was officially dissolved on Sept. 21, according to court documents filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court. The judgment was entered Thursday, restoring both the ‘Spider-Man’ actor, 49, and the jewelry designer to the status of single persons.
“Judgment of dissolution is entered. Marital or domestic partnership status is terminated and the parties are restored to the status of single persons,” the documents state.
The bifurcated ruling means Maguire and Meyer have resolved their marital status but still face outstanding issues to settle. This legal maneuver allows ex-spouses to become single in the eyes of the law while negotiations continue on matters such as property division or other financial arrangements.
Maguire and Meyer first separated in 2016 after nine years of marriage. The pair, who wed in 2007, share two children: daughter Ruby, born in 2006, and son Otis, born in 2009.
Meyer filed for divorce in 2020, four years after the couple’s public split. The filing came well after they had already established separate lives, with both moving on to other relationships in the intervening years.
The prolonged timeline between separation and legal dissolution is not uncommon in California, where complex estates and custody arrangements can delay final judgments. For high-net-worth individuals in particular, the process often stretches across multiple years even when the split itself is amicable.
Throughout the extended uncoupling, both Maguire and Meyer have maintained relatively low public profiles regarding their personal lives. Meyer has built her eponymous fine jewelry brand into a celebrity-favored label, while Maguire has stepped back from the intense spotlight of his leading-man era, taking on selective acting and producing projects.
The Sept. 21 termination date marks a formal endpoint to one of Hollywood’s longer-running separations, though the bifurcated status indicates the complete unwinding of their shared legal and financial life remains unfinished.
