A Morgan Hill father walked into a San Jose hospital Saturday morning and told staff he had killed his wife.
Roy Anthony Lopez, 37, arrived at Good Samaritan Hospital at roughly 9:20 a.m. With the gravely injured woman, according to the Morgan Hill Police Department. Hospital workers then discovered the victim outside in his vehicle.
“First responders located an adult female victim inside a vehicle parked at the hospital,” the department said in a statement. “Paramedics provided immediate emergency medical care, but the victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
San Jose Police Department officers detained Lopez without incident while awaiting Morgan Hill officers, who transported him to their city for questioning. He was later booked into Santa Clara County Jail on a murder charge under California Penal Code section 187(a).

The killing itself occurred at a residence in the 1100 block of Vintage Lane in Morgan Hill, a preliminary investigation determined. When authorities searched that home, they found three children — ages 14, 6 and 3 — who had been left alone.

The children were taken to the Morgan Hill Police Department and subsequently released into the custody of the Santa Clara County Department of Family and Children’s Services.

Lopez’s decision to bring his injured wife to the hospital rather than call emergency services directly added a layer of confusion to the initial police response. The case spans multiple jurisdictions, with San Jose officers making the initial detention and Morgan Hill police handling the murder investigation.
