Steven Tyler’s Vocal Cord Status Revealed Ahead of Aerosmith’s Hollywood Bowl Shows

Steven Tyler’s vocal cords are reportedly in “great” shape ahead of Aerosmith’s return to the stage.

The Aerosmith frontman, 78, is set to lead the band through two nights at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Oct. 29 and Nov. 1 — their first full concerts since scrapping their farewell tour last year, a source said on Monday. The insider said Tyler has been taking good care of his voice since the canceled tour, including plenty of rehab and rest.

Tyler is excited not only to get back on stage, but to share it with his famous friends in the industry, the source added. A full lineup of special guests is being finalized, but several rock greats — past and present — are in talks to join the 2001 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees as they perform songs from their discography.

Aerosmith first teased the comeback gigs in a social media video starring Tyler and photographer Ross Halfin, who asked the “Dream On” crooner if he missed performing.

“Of all the things I’ve ever missed, I missed my mind the most,” the rocker replied.

The band’s return marks a dramatic shift from their position just last year. “Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible,” Aerosmith said at the time of the 2024 retirement announcement. “We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision — as a band of brothers — to retire from the touring stage.”

The cancellation stemmed from a serious vocal cord injury Tyler suffered in 2023 that derailed the band’s “Peace Out” farewell tour entirely. Yet Aerosmith did not withdraw from live sets completely — Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry, 76, notably performed a tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards alongside “Zombie” singer Yungblud.

The band also teamed up with the Gen Z punk symbol for a five-track EP called “One More Time,” released in November 2025, which was their first recording in more than a decade.

Tyler was hit with a sexual assault lawsuit in 2022 stemming from a relationship in the ’70s, but he has adamantly denied any wrongdoing. A source said last month Tyler was “confident” his name would be cleared.

Aerosmith was formed in 1970 and went on to have success with songs like “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” “Angel,” “Janie’s Got a Gun,” and “Love in an Elevator.” They have been nominated for 17 Grammy awards, winning four.

The Hollywood Bowl shows will test whether Tyler can sustain the demands of full concerts after the injury that once seemed to end his touring career. The source’s assessment that his vocal cords are in “great” condition offers the clearest indication yet that the frontman believes he is ready.
