Kelly Ripa has barred Mark Consuelos from dressing her for her own funeral.
Ripa, 56, laid out her posthumous wishes during Wednesday’s broadcast of “Live with Kelly and Mark,” where she and Consuelos, 54, dissected a news item about a woman who hosted her own funeral while still alive. The daytime host told the audience she fully grasped the woman’s motivation, then pivoted to her own elaborate requirements for her celebration of life.

She first deputized the show’s longtime producer Michael Gelman as her funeral planner. “It’s going to be a destination,” she insisted to him, demanding he execute every specification.
Consuelos interjected with what he assumed would be a husband’s prerogative. “Am I in charge of getting you dressed?” he asked.

Ripa shut him down instantly. “No! If Gelman is throwing my funeral, my stylist is getting me dressed,” she fired back.
The prohibition wasn’t arbitrary. Ripa revealed the couple had “already discussed” that Consuelos “should never get [her] dressed for anything,” citing a disastrous prior incident. She had passed out and become unconscious, and Consuelos had dressed her for the emergency room himself.

“Let me just say, I sailed in right past the gunshot victims because I looked so bad,” Ripa quipped on air. Her husband had assembled a green leotard, soccer pants, and high-heeled shoes for the hospital run.
Consuelos pressed for clarity. “Just to be clear, I’m not in charge of getting you ready for the funeral? I’m not in charge of that?”
Ripa confirmed the division of labor. “Put everybody in charge of what they’re typically in charge of,” she said. “Everybody has their typical jobs. You be there, you eulogize, say nice things.”

The exchange fits a pattern of on-air friction between the married co-hosts. Last year, Ripa floated the concept of an “airport divorce” — separate travel arrangements — after claiming Consuelos grew irritable when fans approached them at terminals.

“I’d like to hear more about this airport divorce,” he quipped at the time.
“Well, we’re definitely getting one now,” she replied.

The couple’s banter has long been a ratings draw, with moments of apparent tension often blurring the line between performance and genuine marital negotiation. Wednesday’s funeral planning session offered the latest example, with Ripa treating her own memorial as a production to be stage-managed rather than a ceremony for mourners to improvise.

Her stylist, unnamed during the segment, emerged as the unexpected victor in the household’s mortuary logistics. Gelman, meanwhile, absorbed the broader planning burden of a destination event.

Consuelos’s proposed role had been narrow and specific: the final outfit selection. Ripa’s veto preserved a professional boundary she had already established after the emergency room debacle, when her husband’s fashion instincts left her mortified among other patients.
The leotard-and-heels combination, rendered in green, became a recurring cautionary tale in their domestic lore — one Ripa deployed strategically to justify her funeral-day personnel decisions.
“Live with Kelly and Mark” airs weekday mornings in syndication.
