A reckless Mercedes driver killed one woman and critically injured two others in a Bronx intersection Friday after blowing through a red light to beat traffic, law enforcement sources said.
The motorist, 47, was heading west on Allerton Avenue when he sped through the steady red at Holland Avenue around 2:15 p.m. And slammed into four women crossing in the crosswalk, according to the sources. The victims ranged in age from 50 to 60.

Emergency responders rushed all four women to Jacobi Medical Center. One was pronounced dead, two remained in critical condition, and a fourth was expected to survive, the sources said.
The driver did not stop with the pedestrians. He also struck two other vehicles during the chaotic sequence, according to the sources.
The motorist himself emerged conscious and alert with only minor injuries. He told a witness at the scene that he had been trying to beat the light, the sources said.
The FDNY reported that EMS treated nine people total following the wild collision, suggesting additional injuries beyond the four pedestrians and the driver himself.
The incident unfolded in broad daylight at a busy Bronx intersection, with the Mercedes driver apparently prioritizing speed over the red signal. Law enforcement sources did not immediately identify the driver or the deceased victim pending notification of family members.

The crash drew a massive emergency response to the area near the Bronx Zoo and New York Botanical Garden. Jacobi Medical Center, where the victims were taken, is a Level 1 trauma center located approximately two miles from the crash site.
The two critically injured women and the survivor expected to recover remained under medical care Friday evening. The sources did not provide updated conditions or identify any of the victims by name.

The driver remained at the scene and was taken into custody, though charges were not immediately specified by the sources. The investigation into the deadly crash remained ongoing.
